Hongcheng Liu Associate Professor of Industrial and Systems Engineering University of Florida
I am currently an associate professor of Industrial and Systems Engineering at University of Florida (UF). Before joining the UF, I was a postdoc at Stanford University from 2015 -- 2017. I obtained PhD in Industrial Engineering with a dual-title in Operations Research from Penn State University in 2015 and studied for my undergraduate degree at Huazong University of Science and Tech, Wuhan, China, from 2006--2010.
My research interest lies in the overlap between optimization and statistical/machine learning. I am particularly curious about sample and computational complexities of solution methods for a stochastic programming problem when it is challenged by high dimensionality. I seek to utilize problem structures to mitigate the impact of problem dimensions on the sample requirement and/or computational cost. Due to the many connections between stochastic programming and statistical/machine learning, I am also very interested in learning theories and algorithms. In addition, I work on real-world applications of optimization and learning, e.g., in medical decisions, healthcare, manufacturing, and traffic management.
