The majority of the 700 million people oppressed by global extreme poverty (<$2/day) are rural, Sub-saharan subsistence farmers. These smallholder farmers are 60% women & include 90% of the region's children.

The average Sub-saharan smallholder actually already creates ~$20/day worth of produce, ~10x the poverty limit!
They just aren't paid enough for the value they create! In developed markets, producers keep about 1/3 of revenue.
But smallholders only keep ~5%. Main causes being: 1) no negotiating power, & 2) extortion by the many middlemen. Both stem from lack of market access.
