His debut song in Bollywood films was "Shakal Pe Mat Ja", featuring Gagan Sidhu. Singh charged Rs. 7 million for a song in the film Mastan. This was the largest amount paid to a song artist in Bollywood to date, making Singh one of the highest-paid musical artists in Bollywood.[14][15]

In the aftermath of the 2012 Delhi gang rape case, the lyrics to some of his songs, which depict violence against women and rape positively, have caused controversy.[45] A first information report (FIR) was lodged against Singh for his offensive lyrics, and a group of social activists filed an online petition demanding cancellation of his New Year performance at a Gurgaon hotel.[46] After the campaign, Singh's New Year concert was cancelled by the hotel.[47] Singh denies writing these offensive lyrics.[48]

Singh's song "Party All Night" in Akshay Kumar's film Boss was at the centre of a controversy. Producers of the movie had to submit a petition in Delhi High Court claiming that they had 'muted' an alleged vulgar word in Singh's song. The court heard a petition filed by lawyer Sanjay Bhatnagar seeking a stay on the film, contending that without the censor board's approval, the song could not be released with such a vulgar word. The petitioner had sought a stay on the release of the film until either the word or the song was deleted from the film.[49]

In a conversation with Siddharth Aalambayan, Honey Singh spoke about the rough patch during his career that came after his song Desi Kalakkar. He said, "The success I got post 2012, got to my head, I was getting calls from Akshay Kumar, Shah Rukh Khan wanted to do Lungi Dance with me, Bachchan sir wanted me to feature in Bhoonath's song with me. I let it get to my head, before 2012 I use to believe in God but after my success I thought, 'I am God.' But soon after God put me back in my place."

He added, "Mafia Mundeer's principle was 'respect your hierarchy'. Jo ladke ye bolte hain ki hum Mafia Mundeer mein the, aur mujhe honey bolte hain. Vo Mafia Mundeer mein kabhi the hi nahi. Agar vo mujhe Honey Paaji nahi bol sakte... mai ye nahi keh raha meri izzat karo. Agar tum keh rahe ho ki tum Mafia Mundeer the, toh tum hierarchy ke protocol ko toh follow karo."

Badshah's song Soda Whiskey was gaining popularity. It was quite a hit at that time. This is when Honey Singh approached him to work together. Honey Singh also approached Raftaar - who brought along Lil Golu and Ikka. The three were popular on Orkut for their music. Honey liked their music too, and thus the group was formed. Later, Alfaaz, Money Aulja, Ninja and J-star and many other artists also joined the group.

This happened after Dope Shope was released. The viral song was quite expensive. After the song was released, Raftaar claimed that he wrote the song and also shot for it. However, he was removed from the song and wasn't even given the credit. He quit the group because of this.

Badshah, in 2011, left the group with similar claims. He said that he didn't get due credit for Get Up Jawani, the song on which he spent 5-6 lakhs. In an interview, Badshah said, "I think Honey Paaji decided to go solo. Then everyone thought, 'humara toh kuch hone nahi wala', so everyone left the group."

Not just Dope Shope, Raftaar claimed that he didn't get credit for songs in Fugly. He (Yo Yo) and I wrote and composed these two songs. I have no idea why I am not being credited for them. I wrote Dhup Chik about three years ago. If I tell you that one of his most famous songs, Dope Shope, was also written by me, how would he react?" Raftaar said.

Famous Indian rapper, Badshah has changed the face of rapping with some of his successful songs. Apart from his tremendous career, Badshah is also popular for his arch-rivalry with Yo Yo Honey Singh. The singer has often talked about the same and also revealed what went wrong between him and Honey Singh. And now, the singer has yet again taken a dig at Honey Singh.advertisement

Revealing what went wrong between the two, Badshah stated how he felt Honey Singh was a self-centred man. Elaborating on the same, he stated: We are also creating so many songs, please consider us as well. We have left everything behind and come here. You (Honey) should not be so self-centered. On the one hand, you call us brothers, but on the other, you fail to acknowledge our struggles. He made us sign blank papers; what about those contracts? It was a tough phase." advertisement 0852c4b9a8
