Privacy Policy for Honest Ear

Honest Ear (“the App”) is an audio recording app developed by Valentin Schnabl. This Privacy Policy explains how the App handles information when you use it.
1. Information We Collect
Honest Ear does not collect, transmit, sell, or share personal data with us or with our own servers.
The App may access the following data locally on your device:
Microphone audio: The App uses your device microphone to record audio when you start a recording. Audio is processed on your device for recording, level monitoring, clipping detection, and audio file creation.
Audio files: Recordings are saved locally on your device. The App does not automatically upload your recordings anywhere.
Recording metadata: The App may store local metadata such as file names, notes, duration, format, clipping information, and app settings. This data stays on your device.
2. How We Use Information
The App uses local data only to provide its core features, including:
- Recording audio
- Saving and playing back recordings
- Showing input level and clipping information
- Applying local recording settings
- Displaying saved takes and notes
- Sharing a recording only when you choose to do so
3. Sharing
Honest Ear does not share your recordings automatically.
If you use the share feature, your selected audio file is passed to the Android system share sheet. From there, the file may be handled by the app or service you choose, such as email, messaging, cloud storage, or another installed app. Their privacy policies apply to that sharing action.
4. Data Storage and Retention
Recordings and related metadata are stored locally on your device.
You can delete recordings inside the App. You may also delete App data or uninstall the App through your device settings. Uninstalling the App may remove locally stored App data depending on your Android device and settings.
5. Permissions
The App may request the following permissions:
Microphone: Required to record audio.
Storage or media access: May be used to save, access, play, or share audio recordings, depending on your Android version and device behavior.
The App only uses these permissions for the features described in this Privacy Policy.
6. Third-Party Services
Honest Ear does not include advertising, analytics, or tracking services.
The App may use Android system features and installed apps when you choose to share a recording. Those external apps or services are outside the control of Honest Ear.
7. Children’s Privacy
Honest Ear is not directed at children under the age of 13. The App does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
8. Security
Because recordings are stored locally on your device, their security depends partly on your device security settings. We recommend using a device lock and keeping your device software up to date.
9. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted where this Privacy Policy is made available.
