Homeward Bound Texas Dog Rescue

Dogs are often called man's best friend, but sadly, not all of them have a loving home. In Texas, many dogs end up in shelters or on the streets, facing the risk of euthanasia, disease, or abuse. Fortunately, there are some dedicated people who work hard to save these dogs and give them a second chance at life. One of them is Homeward Bound Dog Rescue, a 501c3 organization of foster families focused on ending the euthanasia of healthy and adoptable dogs in San Antonio and surrounding areas.

Homeward Bound Dog Rescue was founded in 2012 by a group of volunteers who wanted to make a difference in the lives of homeless dogs. They rescue dogs from local shelters, found animals, and owner surrenders, and provide them with veterinary care, spay/neuter, microchip, and vaccinations. They also place them in foster homes where they receive love, socialization, and training until they are ready for adoption. Homeward Bound Dog Rescue does not have a physical shelter or facility; instead, they rely on a network of foster families who open their hearts and homes to these dogs.

Homeward Bound Dog Rescue's mission is to find permanent and loving homes for every dog they rescue. They have an adoption process that includes an application, a vet check, and a home visit. They also have an adoption fee that covers some of the expenses incurred in rescuing and caring for the dogs. Homeward Bound Dog Rescue hosts adoption events at local pet stores where potential adopters can meet the dogs and fill out an application. They also post their available dogs on their website and social media pages.

Since its inception, Homeward Bound Dog Rescue has saved over 3,000 dogs from euthanasia and found them forever homes. Some of their success stories include Luna, a German Shepherd mix who was found as a stray with a broken leg and a severe skin infection; Rocky, a Chihuahua who was surrendered by his owner after being hit by a car; and Daisy, a Pit Bull who was rescued from a hoarding situation with 40 other dogs. These dogs and many others have overcome their past traumas and are now living happily with their new families.

Homeward Bound Dog Rescue is always looking for more volunteers, foster families, donors, and adopters to help them continue their work. Homeward Bound Dog Rescue is not the only organization that rescues dogs in Texas. There are many other groups that share the same vision and passion for saving dogs in need. One of them is Homeward Bound Animal Rescue Inc., based in Burleson, Texas. This group also takes in animals from local shelters who otherwise would be euthanized, found animals, and owner surrenders. They provide veterinary care and fostering until they are adopted by individuals or families. Another group is Homeward Bound Animal Rescue Inc., based in Bedford, Texas. This group is an all volunteer non-profit no-kill organization dedicated to rescuing companion animals and placing them into foster homes until they can be permanently adopted. These groups and many others are doing amazing work to help homeless dogs find their forever homes.
