We created a survey to ask people about their cooking and spending habits, and the possible interest in the meal subscription service. The survey was made on March 2023, had 20 respondents and included 5 multiple choice questions and one open ended question, the survey was created with Google Forms: https://forms.gle/X39CGminPhmbH6wW9
Out of 20 respondents 55% (11) answered yes and 45% (9) answered no. The results are almost even.
This question was asked for respondents that do not cook their own meals.
45% (4) admitted that they are either a bad cook or don't know how to cook.
33% (3) order food or eat out.
22% (2) has someone else cooking for them.
This question asked respondents of their spending habits and gave us an insight of how much students spend on groceries or ordering food, it also (together with the next question) gives us an understanding of how much money students would be willing to pay for our service.
25% of respondents answer that they spend 40€ and more on weekly groceries, this is an answer that occurred most often. There were only 2 respondents that spend 20€-15€ and less.
Respondents were asked to rate their weekly spendings from 1(Not happy at all, wish it was cheaper) to 5 (Very happy, I don't overpay).
5 people rated that they are not happy at all with their spendings (3 of those answered "I order food or eat out" on question number 2).
6 people rated that they are very happy with their spendings (5 of those answered "Yes" on the first question "Do you cook your own meals")
A lot more people are satisfied with their weekly spendings when they cook their own meals instead of those who are ordering food or eating out.
80% (16) of respondents answered "yes", 20% (4) answered "no".
Looking at the data more carefully we found that those who do not wish to subscribe to our service spend less that 25€ a week on groceries, it's understandable that this service would probably cost them more, as well as one of the respondents who answered "No" on this question, when asked to elaborate said "I’m a pretty good cook myself". Others decided not to specify.
This graph includes the 16 respondents that would subscribe to Home For Dinner services. 56% (9) are currently satisfied with their spendings (rating 3-5) or cook their own meals.
44% (7) are unsatisfied with their spendings (rating 1-2) or have answered "No" on the 1st question "Do you cook your own meals?"
All 16 respondents mostly spend 30€ and more on food and groceries.
In summary a big part of students don't make their own meals or don't know how and chose to eat out or order food from restaurants, therefore being very unsatisfied with their money spending habits. Home For Dinner is opting to offer very low prices for students, seeing the results of this survey, it is clear that students would love to have a service like this that could offer cheap yet still healthy and tasty options.
The last (open ended) question gave us a look of why students would love to have a service like this, answers that occurred the most were - "I think I overpay with ordering out" and "I would like to see how it compares to my current spendings" as well as "I would like to try it" and "Sounds interesting". It's obvious there is an interest in this service as well as a need that would really benefit students and their wellbeing.
