Snorkeling Gear 2019

Looking for advice on snorkeling gear choices in 2019? You've come to the right place!

Are you a newcomer to snorkeling who needs advice on which gear to buy?

Are you overwhelmed by the sheer amount of snorkeling equipment currently available?

Are you confused as to which mask/snorkel/fins etc. you should purchase?

If you answer ‘yes’ to any, some or all of the above questions then you’re in the right place. This article solely dedicated to helping you - our beloved readers - make the right choices when it comes to deciphering which is the best snorkeling gear for you. We’ll cover the three primary pieces of equipment - face mask, snorkel and fins - and use our expertise to point you in the right direction. Getting the basics right is paramount and ensuring that ‘boxes are ticked’ is the difference between enjoyable and problem-free snorkeling sessions and those fraught with issues that ultimately make the experience an unpleasant and unenjoyable one. But don’t worry, my friends, you’re in safe hands!

If you’re looking for a dedicated guide to which snorkeling brands are the best in 2019 then we highly advise heading over to the following website:

Snorkel Mask

Whenever I’m asked about snorkel masks and which one(s) to choose there is always one word that comes out of my mouth first - comfort. Without this, you’ll never fully reap the heavenly rewards that snorkeling has to offer. Do you want to spend your time in the water wishing that you could remove your mask? Do you want to spend half your time in the water adjusting the straps in an attempt to make yourself more comfortable? Of course not - so always remember the ‘C’ word when trying on snorkel masks.

Second on the list is fogging. This is by far and away the number one issue that snorkelers face (no pun intended) - and believe me, it is incredibly frustrating as it ruins your entire session! There are numerous ingenious ways to stop fogging up of your mask (Google is your friend here!), with some masks even having de-fogging capabilities.

Thirdly - and something that many people actually forget about - is the field of view that a snorkel mask offers. Cheaper models (i.e. traditional masks) will provide an angled view, however, with a full-face mask, you get crystal clear 180 degree views.

Snorkels

Just like masks, the key word here is also comfort. Who’d want something uncomfortable in their mouth for the entire duration of a dive? Not me, that’s for sure! With so many different shapes, sizes and styles of snorkel mouthpiece out there it can seem a daunting task trying to find one that is the perfect match for your mouth, but this vast selection is actually a good thing as it means you will be able to find a snorkel that suits you and your mouth perfectly.

Fins

Those new to the world of snorkeling are often dubious about using fins, simply because they often feel cumbersome when first worn and this can lead the wearer to feel they are too heavy and will not assist swimming or hinder it in some way, shape or form. This, apparently, isn’t the case! Fins are an absolute must as they help you to save massive amounts of energy, will help you to swim faster if needs be and will protect your feet from dangers beneath them such as coral (you don’t want to stand on coral, trust me!).

When it comes to choosing a specific type of fin there are numerous options available: full foot, open heel, paddle fin, split fin etc. - we’ll not go into detail here (please see the above link if you want an in-depth guide on choosing the right fins for you), so instead we’ll just go back to our word of the day - comfort! Also, it’s better to choose a size a little big than a bit small as the latter may cause pain, which is the last thing you want when taking in the wonders of the watery world beneath you!

Thanks for stopping by. Have a great day!
