$680 for Olive Garden with discounts. Had about ⅓ of food left over. Should remember for next year if using Olive Garden. Weren’t enough plates.

Loved that there was both hot and iced coffee, but iced coffee was a little more popular
Would be a fun tradition to continue with a workday coffee right after winter break.

March - PT Conference meal will be Jason’s Deli Mar. 16th would be the preferred day.
Might be doing a Sonic day in April

Jan 19 - Slim’s Spirit Event (Weddington only) @4-9PM. Demetria will reach out to see if they can do it all day since there’s no school.
Can the school print flyers and send home the week of Jan 12?
Update: the district print shop will not print flyers for spirit events. The school will send out texts instead
Feb 16 - Starlight Skatium can do the 3:30-5:30 slot, we can price it how we want, but they keep $3. Jenny thinks $5. They currently said they can only do Monday or Tuesday, but Demetria will double check about Friday, Feb. 13th.
Modern Mission doesn’t open until Friday, but will call then to see about March
Glow Party Committee Chair - Carly Grace
January 23rd @ 6:00-7:30PM (back up - January 30)
DJ is going to set up glow lights ($750 for event, but is paid for by Walmart grants)
The PTO owns glow lights if funds are tight in future years.
Making a dance floor out of posterboards
Photobooth that prints pictures
Free tickets for students in need: there will be 5 tickets given to each pack for the teachers to determine. Teachers who feel they need more can reach out.
Needs to reach out to Mr. Morningstar about getting the district to print color flyers about items that can be purchased at the glow party. Amy Bond will send it to Mr. Morningstar to handle if Carly can send the image. It will take 2-3 days.
Requesting a daily clickable link
Update on pick up for glow party: Officer Odell and Mr. Morningstar are working on this. Officer Odell is requesting two more officers on sight for dismissal. No left turns coming in or out of the parking lot. All cars must enter from the north end.
Requesting board to sign up if they are going to be there for glow party.
Needs lots of help to get wrist bands on students during the school day for the glow party
Set up can’t start until 3PM

Winter Blitz is upcoming, hot cocoa bar, “snowball” fight in PM (marshmallows)
Spelling Bee moved so students aren’t missing out on Winter Blitz
Themed programing is moving forward in unifying entire school - non-science packs are already starting to move in that direction
Recruitment looks different. Transportation between schools will happen next year but not the following year. (All middle schools will be theme schools the following year - 2027/28.)
Going to lead with parent meetings (potentially in January) rather than students to avoid getting students excited about a program that doesn’t work for parents with transportation issues.
Currently have about 1650 middle schoolers across the district.
President – Jenny Jackson
School improvement purchases (see attached spreadsheet)
Total spent so far - just over $15K
Eagle Cap will get back to me about items they want to purchase. $2K budget
Have not purchased any instruments - may not have enough to purchase but looking into grant options - Free to apply within the district on the PTO level, but it looks like there might be a lot of red tape. Will reach out to Mr. Truehart about the possibility of getting involved. FPEF is unlikely to approve. The cost is about $3500. Will check and see if this is something we could get help with a grant from Tyson.

January 23rd @ 6:00-7:30PM (back up - January 30)
DJ - two options (one has done Ramay, one has done Vandergriff) will have to pay for one because all the free ones were booked
DJ will take requests but Carly has discussed with the DJs what will not be acceptable music
Glow supply purchasing time - trying to avoid time spent in line to buy things
one idea is to allow them to purchase at school in advance at recess
It would still be available at the event as well
Candy and glow items will be around $2
Mr. Morningstar agreed to selling M,W, F
Check-in was slow last year.
Idea is to go in Friday during school and give the kids who prepaid a wrist band.
Mr. Morningstar agreed to wrist bands in advance and suggested a second door for those with bracelets.
Pickup
Carly asked Mr. M to Brainstorm ways to improve this process
Glow party math lesson (Emily White)
Suggests supplying the prices for glow party items and concession items ahead of time with the math teachers so the kids are more prepared
Could also have an order they can fill out ahead of time or more parent volunteers to keep them on track while in line
Spirit Nights Chair- Demetria Watts
11/21 - Arkadia ($75) & Summer Moon (still waiting on check)
December - Light show ticket 15% percentage from 11/21 - 12/31 at $325 as of yesterday $35 for once time/$85 for season pass

Question from Eagle Cap re: classroom resources for on-site experiences
Uneasy to purchase the one time use items as it was not what we communicated we were raising funds for
Could consider funding if they are unable to fund another way later in the year
RollAThon’s net was $19K, $12K was what was set and ~$15K is available to spend on RollAThon purchases presented
RollAThon DJ
Christian music was played by the DJ, Frederick. Several parents who were present noticed.
Kirsten suggested that DJ would not continue to be used and that in the future, the playlist would be presented to Mr. Morningstar and the PTO ahead of time for approval

Potential Houndstooth partnership on winter merch. For holiday/winter theme item idea, Hound Tooth does spirit wear. Order minimum is $36.
Hounds Tooth wants to be considered for future bulk orders - price would be about $10/shirt. They package and ship directly so there’s no work. Nice shirt with three colors.
Would like to put a yard sign outside the school to promote it.

Pack furniture
Rimmer with Iditarod would like different pack furniture
Now that different options are there, going to check back with the packs that didn’t want furniture
Feedback: Eagle Cap said no, Voyager would like money used for something else

Looked into other company and cost was $6-8k (Bam Mascots) vs. $3k (Alinco)

September was all about academics
No inappropriate language for the month of September = a free extra recess at end of month
Remind them that “this is not needed” when it happens
Teachers meet regularly to look at report card standards and make sure that they are intervening for the students who aren’t meeting standards
There are 8 different levels for ELA that they intervene with
Georgia Numerousy(?) Project - finds math learning levels
Tracy Halligan new director
In school education’s name? Caitlyn?
Intentionally trying to promote more education happening on social media
As far as the lock down that happened in Fayetteville schools due to the University of Arkansas threat: there are no check ins and check outs during lock downs. This is because it reduces risk to the students and the truancy officers stay in the building - they are not called off. Staff positioned at every entry/exit door to keep an eye on things. There will be drills to keep everyone educated on how to deal with a lock down.
Free breakfast:
Students should aim to get there by 7:25 to make sure they have time for breakfast
Mr. Morningstar is going to get a poll on how many kids are eating breakfast now and then will make an announcement to the school in case kids don’t know and check again to see if it makes a difference

Fundraising project vote - total suggested would amount to about $23,000
Quotes:
Additional pack furniture: $13,000 or more
Survey sent to teachers
Denali - Yes, same as what they got last year
Eagle Cap - No
Voyageurs - No (request to have the money to spend on the kids - “We would love to use it towards supplies, experiences, and other needs the packs see necessary”)
Music equipment: (Grand total = $3,500)
3 xylophones = $2,000
5 drums - $300 x 5 = $1,500
One parent noted that perhaps a FPEF grant or music grant could purchase these items - next application is due in October, but since this is rounding out a collection vs. starting something new and innovative, they are less likely to support it per Mr. Morningstar
Four tetherball sets installed in-ground: (Grand total = $2,360 + install fee)
Installation fee $?
12 tetherballs - 12 x $30 = $360
Would need to figure out where they would go - previous tether balls were removed when a road was put in and they were supposed to be reinstalled, but never were - garden area is out because it gets spongy
Recess equipment: (Grand total = $1,144.65)
20 basketballs
10 soccer balls
20 4-square/gaga/kick balls
10 footballs
Husky mascot costume: $3,000 (Alinco Costumes)
Want to make sure there is staff willing to wear it so that it is actually used
It was felt that the kids would enjoy it, but we would need to make sure there is a bouncer as this age can get rough with mascots.
If we do this, we could create a “name the mascot” form

Glossary overview
Pack partners- A team that normally consists of one lead and 1 or 2 more parent volunteers that communicate with the child’s pack teacher to see if the pack needs organizational and/or activity support. These are normally for pack events in the school day.
Can reach out to all parents for donations (snacks, etc)
Pack money is spent on
storage tubs for projects
games, balls for rewards
Awards
notebooks, pens, popcorn
tie-dye supplies for t-shirts
cookies, ice cream, crafts
PBIS- PBIS stands for Positive Behavior Intervention & Supports. We reward this on a period by period basis with PAWS Points. They earn these and can spend them weekly in PAW-Mart.
Paw Mart / paw points - Paw mart is a store where kids save up on PAW Points to buy “treasure box” items. Kids often save up to get a BIG Ticket Item which is 1000 points. Those BIG Ticket Items are to places like Altitude, Devil's Den, Modern Mission, Top Golf Gift Cards and many more!
Friday Schedule - An alternate schedule that shortens class periods to enable a time at the end of the day for a special event listed below.
Club Day Schedule- The end time of the day will be for the 5-6 Pack Clubs that the students get to sign up at the beginning of each semester. This will happen at least once a month.
Pack-based only starting this year
Can ask the kids what kind of clubs they want
Science Explorer packs have flex schedule; so they need to operate on their own club schedule
Pack Day Schedule- The end time of the day will be for the Pack to have a whole pack time together. A reward or meeting can take place during this time. This will happen at least once a month.
Summit Day Schedule- This is usually on the last Friday of the month. The whole school will be together and have Pack competitions (most Summits) and a small message (possibly a guest) to unify, celebrate, and rally school spirit.
Monday - Thursday = same bell schedule

School Improvement Project Selection for 2024/2025 - Top priorities after feedback from parents, teachers, and students:
Outdoor speakers: Matt Morningstar said that outdoor speakers would rarely be beneficial in a safety situation unless there was an outside threat. Teachers have walkie-talkies, whistles, and a microphone to communicate. Matt’s guess is $2000 for a quote. This is also in the plans for funding from school in near future, so it may not be the best use of PTO funds.
Basketball/pickleball Quotes:
Everline quote for basketball and pickleball: (Matt reached out and district approved - still needs to be approved by maintenance but no issues expected there)
striping: $2549
Seal coating: $2213.76
Crack Filling: $830.52
Parking Lot Plus
Crack Seal: $785
2 full basketball courts painting: $6000
3 pickleball courts painting: $3000
QikCourts/Turf
Base bid: $9805.10-$18,699.53
Furniture (School Outfitters) Teachers asked if they want: 19? said yes, 4 said no
Pieces range from $1500-2400 per piece (about $8,000 total for one grade) Plan to start with 6th grade so that all students who raise money will get to use it.
Teachers said couches are less appealing due to limited arrangements and seating. Some 5th grade teachers interested to see 6th grade before deciding what they want for 5th.
Decision on how to proceed in priorities for promotion: Basketball/pickleball court will be the focus w/ furniture and speakers if enough is raised

Bylaws presented and approved

Safety Incident:
Incident reported within an hour of threat - police worked on it over the night
Mr. Morningstar found out at 6am from a parent email sent overnight; Police did not contact him;
How do we keep the school safe?
They consider where they get the threat first - hearsay, hard evidence, etc. to determine how reliable it is.
Notify parents
