If you want professional-grade monitoring with ultra-low latency for content creation, choose Hollyland Lark MAX 2; if you need immersive music listening and deep noise isolation for daily commutes, choose osmo offical Official Earbuds Active.
• Hollyland Lark MAX 2: Its biggest strength is the dual-mode connectivity offering 25ms ultra-low latency for video recording alongside all-day comfort in an open-ear design; its trade-off is the lack of active noise cancellation, meaning you hear everything around you. This pick is for creators who need to monitor audio while filming or vlogging without blocking out traffic or wind.
• osmo offical Official Earbuds Active: Its biggest strength is the powerful 35dB active noise cancellation paired with HiFi sound quality that blocks out the world; its trade-off is the sealed in-ear design which may not be ideal for situational awareness during outdoor activities like cycling. This pick is for listeners who prioritize silence, bass-heavy music, and clear calls in noisy environments.
The Hollyland Lark MAX 2 is built for a very specific type of user: the creator who needs their ears open but their audio precise. Unlike traditional earbuds that seal your ear canal, this device uses an open-ear design that keeps you connected to your surroundings. This is not just a comfort feature; it is a safety and workflow necessity. When you are shooting video, conducting interviews, or even riding a bike, being able to hear ambient sounds is critical. The open-ear shape means you avoid the "occlusion effect" where your own voice sounds hollow, allowing for natural monitoring of your environment while you work.
The technical heart of this product is its ability to switch seamlessly between two distinct modes. You can operate it in standard Bluetooth mode for casual listening, or engage the 2.4GHz transmission for pro-level monitoring. That 2.4GHz connection delivers an astonishingly low 25ms latency, which is essential for anyone trying to sync audio with video on set. If you have ever tried to record audio while wearing standard Bluetooth headphones, you know the frustration of lag. The Lark MAX 2 eliminates that delay, ensuring what you hear matches exactly what is happening on camera.

Battery life is another area where this model shines for long days in the field. With up to 18 hours of use in 2.4GHz mode and 17 hours in Bluetooth mode, you are covered for full-day shoots without needing to hunt for a power outlet. The inclusion of fast charging further supports this, giving you hours of playback from a short charge. However, because it lacks active noise cancellation, you must be comfortable with a constant stream of background noise. If you plan to wear these on a busy subway or in a loud construction zone, the silence you crave will never come. It is designed for clarity and situational awareness, not isolation.
In stark contrast, the osmo offical Official Earbuds Active is engineered for those who want to escape the noise rather than coexist with it. The defining feature here is the active noise cancellation (ANC) capable of blocking up to 35dB of ambient sound. Whether you are dealing with the drone of an airplane engine, the chatter of an office, or the rumble of city traffic, these earbuds create a personal sanctuary. This makes them an excellent choice for commuters or office workers who need to focus on music or podcasts without distraction. The 10mm dynamic drivers complement this by delivering rich bass and crisp highs, turning every song into a high-fidelity experience that feels immersive and detailed.
Comfort is handled differently here through an ergonomic, in-ear fit that weighs a mere 3.8 grams per bud. While they are incredibly light, the physical presence inside the ear canal is necessary to achieve the seal required for both the ANC and the bass response. This design ensures a secure fit during movement, making them suitable for workouts or active lifestyles where stability matters. The IPX5 water resistance rating adds a layer of durability against sweat and rain, though users should note the distinction between this and higher waterproof standards. For many, the trade-off of having something physically inside the ear is worth it for the total immersion and the ability to block out the chaos of the outside world.
Call quality is another strong point for this model. The combination of the HiFi drivers and the sealing effect of the in-ear design helps isolate your voice from background noise during calls. You won't need to shout over a wind machine or street noise; the hardware handles the isolation for you. However, the sealed nature of the earbuds means you lose the ability to hear approaching cars or cyclists. If your primary use case involves moving through shared spaces, you must rely entirely on your visual awareness, as these earbuds will effectively cut you off from auditory cues. They are best suited for stationary listening or controlled environments where isolation is the priority.
