The Wizard of Oz Museum -  An 8-minute drive from the resort, this immersive experience museum is enlightening and entertaining for all ages. It includes a spectacular collection of Wizard of Oz memorabilia, an impressive collection of L. Frank Baum's books - including first editions - and 3 immersive video presentations covering the land of Oz, imagery from the James Webb Space Telescope, and the works of Vincent Van Gogh. This is a top-ranked attraction on TripAdvisor, Google, and many others. Allow 1-3 hours.
Sands Space History Center - Port Canaveral - Just around the corner from the resort, this unique FREE museum shows the history of all the launchpads at CCSFS, as well as what lies ahead. Their gift shop usually is a good source for current launch patches, which are a popular souvenir. Allow 1-2 hours
Cape Canaveral Lighthouse & Spaceflight Tours  - Lighthouse, Launchpads, and More! A must-do for anyone  with an interest in spaceflight! See schedule on their site. US citizens only. Check out this youtube video for a great overview of the tour.

Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge - Covering all of Kennedy Space Center's grounds, MINWR provides numerous wildlife viewing opportunities from gators to wild boards, all manner of birds, and even manatees!
Tosohatchee Wildlife Management Area - Christmas, Florida - "Orlando's Wetlands Park" is a wonderful drive through a Florida wetland. See birds and wildlife year-round.
Blue Herron Wetlands - Just outside Titusville, this loop is home to many of the most beautiful of Florida's bird population, including Blue Herron, Sandhill Crane, and Bald Eagles.

Jungle Adventures - Just 30 minutes north in Christmas, Florida is a true local gem. You'll see a lot of alligators here from babies to VERY large. This is a rescue park, so you'll see a number of different animals. I've been to this park several times, and it's always a fun experience. If you want to keep it local but get to see some real Florida wildlife, this is a great spot.

Wild Florida Airboats, Safari and Gator Park - A fantastic all-in-one experience that is great for families of all ages. I've done this one myself and we had a GREAT time. There's a drive-thru safari park with lots of animals and no fences. There's a giraffe feeding encounter.  There's a gator park with numerous animals on display, and then there's airboat rides. Just over an hour drive, and it makes a great day trip from the resort. Look for discounts on Groupon!

Meet Lemurs at Chase Sanctuary - A very interesting and fun rescue facility, about 90 minutes from the resort in Webster, Florida. An opportunity to interact one-on-one with ring-tailed lemurs makes this an unforgettable experience. My wife and I went with another couple and it was a very nice afternoon. We spent about 4 hours here. The sanctuary also has other animals such as small monkeys and marmosets. They also offer yoga with lemurs and painting with lemurs.
