Roland Rugero joined the editorial staff of Iwacu in 2008 and left in 2014. In 2016, he was one of the founders of Jimbere Magazine, which is primarily aimed at young people and women in Burundi. Today, he is its editor-in-chief. In 2016, he was also one of the founders of the online newspaper Ikiriho, which focuses mainly on political content, which he left in 2018. In his story, Roland Rugero recounts how he approached journalism through the world of writing, and what motivated him to imagine an ‘alternative’ magazine to news that was too focused on Burundian political issues.
Roland Rugero's story is published in full in the book Histoire(s) vécue(s) du journalisme au Burundi.
