Mashock, whose real name is Jean-Marie Hezimana, worked at RPA between 2003 and 2015. He became known for his comedy show ‘Cukucuku’ [pronounced: chu-ku-chu-ku]. He was one of the last people to speak to the RPA on May 13th, 2015, when a coup d'état took place in Burundi. Afterwards, following threats, he fled to Uganda. In October 2015, he learned of the murder of his sister and her entire family in Bujumbura. In 2021, Mashock moved to Belgium, where he lives under international protection.
