Our research program focuses on the applications of THz and Raman Spectroscopic Imaging - two high precision laser spectroscopy techniques. We use them as viable non-contact diagnostic platforms for understanding the behavior of various biological and condensed matter systems, which can have long-ranging implications in technological and commercial landscapes in next generation agricultural management practices and opto-electronics.
We aim to study large-scale physical and chemical behavior of Agri-food-pharma and essentially various bio-components of our modern 'material' world. Through our research objectives and priorities, we try to address some of the critical emerging issues of our time: blue water scarcity, food quality control, counterfeit drugs, ecological sustainability and renewable energy resources.
Taj Mahal, made of exquisite white calcite, continues to deteriorate due to the emission of sulphur dioxide, methane etc. by industries and vehicular exhaust caused by the dense population in the region. Our collaborative works on samples with Pietra-Dura works, representative of the Taj Mahal architecture, already showed damages and irregularities including surface discoloration due to methane, water inclusions in the volume and sub-surface cracks employing micro-Raman spectroscopy, broadband Terahertz Time Domain Imaging (THz-TDI) and THz Laser Feedback Interferometry (THz-LFI).
