Session III: Green, Resilient and Inclusive Development (GRID) - Agenda Beyond Nepal

Nepal has established an ambitious country platform on green, resilient, inclusive development (GRID) to better respond to multiple overlapping challenges such as climate change, food insecurity, debt distress and pandemics. The GRID platform includes nearly all ministries, and 16 development partners (DPs) to coordinate support to scale up action on ten priority transitions over the next ten years. These priorities are backed by financing from ongoing portfolios (the subject of the field trips below), active pipelines, and potential new multi-partner-supported, multi-sector investment programs, and enabled by an ongoing program of policy reforms and government budget.

Following the endorsement of the September 2021 Kathmandu Declaration on GRID by the Government of Nepal and 16 development partners, including the GRID Strategic Action Plan (SAP), the Government of Nepal has signalled a shift toward a different model of sustainable development based on enhancing integration across sectors and themes to optimize development benefits. Nepal’s Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC), National Adaptation Plan, sectoral strategies, periodic 5-year development plans, and Sustainable Development Goals emphasize the need for more jobs, more economic opportunities, and more secure livelihoods from the GRID transition for more people.
