Gary is a wilderness expedition leader and tenured professor of Natural & Applied Sciences from Santa Cruz, California. He has led expeditions around the globe for over twenty years ranging from deep jungle treks to volcano climbs, and from traversing the Pyrenees to first-descent white water kayak runs. He has made curriculum contributions to the field of wilderness education and has taught courses for wilderness outfitters, retreat venues and institutions of higher education.

Gary's teaching highlights the practices of a variety of wisdom traditions and cultures with an emphasis on how they connect to the natural world. He is a keen naturalist, ultra-runner, adventurer, kite-surfer and mountaineer. Gary’s biggest passion in life is teaching people how they can nourish their mind, body and spirit through time spent in the wilds.
