Galaxies in the First Billion Years Workshop 2026
Galaxies in the First Billion Years Workshop 2026
Scientific Motivation
The last few years have witnessed a revolution in our understanding of galaxy formation during the first billion years of cosmic history. Deep observations with JWST and ALMA have revealed unprecedented details of the stellar populations, ionized gas, dust, and cold interstellar medium in galaxies at z > 4, opening new windows into the assembly of the earliest galaxies and their surrounding environments.
This workshop aims to bring together observers and theorists to discuss recent developments in high-redshift galaxy evolution, with particular emphasis on the interplay between stars, gas, dust, and the circumgalactic medium. This meeting aims to foster collaboration among all participants, particularly among members of the JWST ORCHIDS, ALPINE+CRISTAL+JWST projects, and related programs, while remaining open to the broader Chilean community. The workshop provides a comprehensive framework for connecting scientific priorities across these collaborations.
Across all four days, plenaries, discussion panels and breakout sessions are designed to enhance science, capitalize on current efforts, plan future projects with ALMA, JWST, VLT/Keck, and discuss prospects with ELT, Roman and ngVLA.
