(Helping-Hands-Active-Knights) or H.H.A.K. for short is a volunteer a YPAR group. YPAR stands for (Youth-Led Participatory Action Research) which means a group of youth, researches an issue and takes action to improve the problem.
We as youth are given an opportunity to make a change within our school and community witch is not an opportunity all youth get. We want to use our voices to give back to our school and community and make them a better and healthier place. We focus on issues that deal with healthy living such as nutrition, physical activity and healthy habits and practices like gardening.
The first members of H.H.A.K. came together to give back to their community in 2016. With one adult partner and 8 youth researchers. That year they worked on a food study and the next year they worked on increasing physical activity and received money to buy new equipment and gathered many volunteers to paint the side walks of their school to increase physical activity during recess breaks.
