Learning Aim C: What to do

Component 1 - Learning Aim C - Develop and review a user interface

Task 1 - Title: Developing the User Interface

Create a new PowerPoint and name it 'Final Design Sprint 1' .

Make sure you follow your plans (storyboards/initial designs and your mood boards).

Create your user interface (For help see Lesson 12 - UI Skills in: R:\Digital Information Technology (DiT)\Component 1\Learning Aim C)

Task 2 - Title: The User Interface

Create a new Word document and name it 'Component 1 Learning aim C - Develop and review a user interface'.

Now a Subtitle : Developing the User interface

Introduction: Write a small paragraph explaining what you have made and why you have made it (link to the scenario). Make sure you include that the user interface is designed for touch screen. Next briefly explain that you will place annotated screenshots of the user interface below and then you will get user feedback on the design before refining it. You will now be annotating screenshots of the user interface that you have created.

Firstly, screenshot each of the different screens for your user interface, and paste these images on to your Word document.

Then, use arrows and text boxes to annotate the screens, you must clearly show all the features of the user interface:

  • Any Accessibility features.

  • Any inputs needed by the user.

  • Navigation.

  • How the user interface will respond to users clicks.

  • Any outputs of the user interface.

Task 3 - Title: User Feedback

Create a new Word document and call it 'Feedback questionnaire'.

Create a small questionnaire to get users to fill in after testing your user interface.

This should be a list of closed and open-ended questions for the user to provide feedback on such as;

  • How the navigation worked overall or on specific pages.

  • How easy text was to read on certain pages.

  • How images / pages looked.

  • How the user feels about specific features:

    • Maps

    • Buttons

    • Icons

    • Sound

    • Text

  • Any improvements to make it more user friendly.

  • Any accessibility features that may be needed.

You must have at least 10 questions.

Now ask three classmates to test your user interface and fill in the user feedback form. After this, screenshot the three user feedback forms into the Word document. Titling them User 1 feedback, User 2 feedback and User 3 feedback.

Challenge: You could create a questionnaire using Microsoft Forms and share it with the students who are testing your user interface.

Task 4 - Title: Refining the User Interface

On your Word document Component 1 Learning aim C - Develop and review a user interface'.

Firstly, discuss the results of your user feedback forms. Identify a few features / parts of the design to improve upon.

Then, create a copy of your 'Final Design Sprint 1' and rename it 'Final Design Sprint 2'. Make the necessary changes to your user interface. Place the new screenshots of the improved interface onto your Word document and annotate how they have been changed based on user feedback.

Task 5 - Title: Evaluation

In this final section you will be assessing the success of the user interface and the use of your chosen project planning techniques (PERT, Gantt, Mood board etc) justifying decisions you have made. On your Word document insert the following subtitles.

1. User interface

The strengths and weaknesses of the user interface:

      • How well the user requirements have been met.

      • How easy is the user interface to use.

      • Is the user interface suitable for the audience and purpose.

      • How effectively the design principles have been met.

2. Project Planning Techniques

The strengths and weaknesses of the project planning techniques:

      • How well the chosen project planning and methodologies met the needs of the task.

      • Project constraints and how they were overcome.

      • Lessons you have learnt conducting the project.

3. Improvements

What areas of the user interface could be developed to better meet the audience needs/design principles.
