ETG focuses on the education and training of human factors and ergonomics specialists in academia, industry, and government. The group seeks to foster a free exchange of ideas, techniques, and even products among members to further the cause of educating Human Factors professionals.
The Education Technical Group (ETG) is concerned with the design of educational systems, environments, interfaces, and technologies associated with human factors education. The group consists of educators, researchers, students, and others interested in educational human factors and ergonomics. We are focused on the education and training of human factors and ergonomics specialists in academia, industry, and government. Our mission also encompasses educational ergonomics, the study and application of human factors principles in educational systems. This includes addressing the use of various types of technologies, classroom design, educational topics, and teaching methods.
The ETG consists of about 200 individuals who are primarily associated with colleges and universities as either educators, researchers, or students. Most ETG members are also members of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society.
The ETG holds its annual business meeting during the week of the annual HFES meeting. Elections for ETG Chair, Program Chair-Elect, and Newsletter Editor are held every two years.
The Education Technical Group, like other technical groups within the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society, performs a variety of functions and services for its members. In addition to sponsoring technical sessions at the Annual Meeting of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society, the ETG conducts special panel discussions and forums on educational issues of interest to both the ETG and general HFES membership. The ETG also offers a display of educational materials and information on human factors educational programs at the Annual Meeting. A newsletter is sent to all ETG members two or three times a year. The ETG also maintains a website for its members. Members can also send and receive time-sensitive information from the ETG listserve. It is not necessary to be a member of HFES in order to join the Education Technical Group. However, only those who are members of HFES and the ETG may hold an office within the ETG.
You may join the Education Technical Group for an annual fee of $4.00. It is not necessary to be a member of HFES to join the ETG.
