Heuston’s Fort, an Irish History Book, is based on the story of the fight in the Easter Rising of 1916 in Dublin at the Mendicity Institution Building on Ushers Island. It has been co-authored by three grandchildren of combatants in that battle.
Heuston’s Fort is a book that seeks to highlight the importance of the battle of the Mendicity Institution Garrison to the 1916 Easter Rebellion in Ireland.
The small contingent of 29 men made a significant contribution in prolonging the rebellion by preventing large numbers of troops from attacking the central command at the General Post Office and other larger garrisons such as the Four Courts and Dublin Castle. This book includes combatant's personal accounts of the battle and profiles on each of the fighters.
