A wedding at Heslington Church is a joyful celebration of love, commitment, and God’s blessing. Our building is light, flexible, and welcoming, set in a beautiful village location within the York ring road, with easy access and on‑site parking.
We offer Anglican (Church of England) weddings, shaped by prayer, Scripture, and the vows you will make before God and your community.
As your wedding pack says, “Planning a wedding is a joyful part of your journey together… What matters most is creating a day that feels true to who you are and how you want to begin married life.”
Every couple brings something unique, and we love helping you shape a service that reflects that. We will guide you through:
choosing readings, hymns, and music
exploring the shape of the service
understanding the legal steps
preparing for the day itself
reflecting on the meaning of the vows you will make
There is plenty of room for creativity within the Anglican service, and we’ll help you find what feels right for you.
To marry in the Church of England, you normally need a qualifying connection with the parish. Many couples already have one, and if not, it is often easy to establish through regular attendance over a short period.
When you enquire, we will check your eligibility and explain exactly what you need to do next. As your wedding pack says, “These steps can feel a bit complicated, but don’t worry — we’re always happy to help.”
Your wedding pack includes guidance on:
choosing Bible readings
selecting hymns or other music
bells, photographers, and filming
symbolic additions (such as hand‑fasting)
how the church can be set up
witnesses and signing the registers
We’ll talk through all of this with you when you book.
Wedding fees vary depending on the options you choose (organist, bells, flowers, etc.). Full details are included in our Wedding Booking Form, which you can request when you contact us.
If one or both of you have been married before, or if either of you is not a British national, additional steps may be needed, but please don’t worry. We will guide you through everything clearly and kindly.
Once you’ve booked your date, we’ll send you our Planning Your Wedding pack, which includes:
the full order of service
guidance on music, readings, and hymns
FAQs
legal requirements
practical planning tips
layout options
rehearsal information
It’s designed to help you enjoy the process and feel supported every step of the way.
If you are specifically looking for a Methodist wedding, please contact the Methodist minister directly. Their details can be found on our Contact Us page.
