This postdoctoral research project is associated with the FAPESP Thematic Project "ARQUIGRAFIA 4.0 Experience" (process number 20/05134-9). Characterized as an interdisciplinary proposal, it falls within the areas of knowledge of Information Science, Architecture, Urbanism, and Arts and aims to critically analyze and improve architectural and artistic vocabularies for the informational representation of the cultural heritage of Portuguese-speaking countries.
Currently, the collaborative digital platform ARQUIGRAFIA, composed of photographic images of architecture and urban spaces in Portuguese-speaking countries, presents a basic set of terms for the description and subsequent retrieval and access of information about its collection. This set consists mainly of descriptive terms of architectural materials and components.
This project seeks to recognize, gather, and develop new terms to improve the platform's controlled vocabularies and enrich the records of cultural assets present in the system. In this way, ARQUIGRAFIA users - and those of other similar Portuguese-speaking platforms - will benefit from more retrieval and access resources to the photographic collections available online.
Based on a literature review on controlled vocabularies and supported by consolidated guidelines and standards, such as the tools maintained by the Getty Research Institute, Los Angeles, the update of ARQUIGRAFIA's tools may also be useful for other projects and cultural institutions that seek to preserve Lusophone cultural heritage.
