Herbs For Diabetes - Medicine That Increases Blood Glucose

Herbs for Diabetes is an all-natural, safe alternative to traditional medication. They can be used to control high blood pressure and regulate insulin action in the body. Some of the more popular Pakistani herbs for diabetes therapy are: khichdi (Cissampelos pareira), Saariva (Hemidesmus indicus), Manjishtha (Rubia cordifolia), Haridra (Curcuma longa), Patol (Tricosanthe dioica), Patha (Cissampelos pareira), Musta (Cyperus rotundus), Triphala (Three fruits), Nimba (Azadirachta indica) and Kutaj (Holarrhina antidysentrica). All these herbs have been used to treat diabetes by their various traditional remedies and therapeutic effects.

Diabetes Treatment with Herbs:

Traditional, medicinal plants such as the Pakistani ginseng and the Chinese wolfberry, among others, act as insulin sensitizers and insulin secretagogues. They help to produce a hormone known as insulin that can enter the cells of the bloodstream and help to control glucose production in the cells. In traditional medicine, herbs for diabetes include the following: Rhodiola rosea, Polygonum multiflorum, Poria Cocos, Mimulus guttatus, Gotu Kola, Salvia hispanica, Centella asiatica, Diocorum acid and Agaricum album. These herbs for diabetes can all be taken in capsule form along with other medicines. They work best together in diabetic patients. Some of these herbs are not suitable for pregnant women.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, herbs for diabetes are used in many different forms. They are believed to be very useful in lowering blood sugar levels. There is a significant reduction in the amount of sugar in the urine when herbs for diabetes are consumed. However, caution should be taken if you are allergic to any of the ingredients in these herbs for diabetes. The use of herbs for diabetes in combination with medications is also possible.

Diabetes mellitus is also treated using herbs for diabetes with the same objective as in Traditional Chinese Medicine. Herbs such as Huang Qi, Yau Lu, Bing Gu, Fu Kong, He Shou Wu and other herbs are used in high doses for diabetes. These extracts are combined with other herbs in order to form a comprehensive oral dose-dependent inhibition formula.

Herbal extract is another option for treating diabetes. The most common herbal extract to treat diabetes is the rice bran extract (oil extract). It contains no carbohydrates but contains significant amounts of glucose, insulin, glycogen, lipids and other nutrients that can increase blood glucose. The glucose is absorbed by the body immediately. The rice bran extract is said to be more efficient than the type II dietary fibers in terms of insulin uptake.

Curcumin is one of the active herbs for diabetes. This is the herb in which you can find turmeric. Although there is some controversy regarding the safety profile of curcumin for treating diabetes, its anti-inflammatory property has been established. It has anti-microbial and anti-viral properties. Both diabetic and non-diabetic renal insufficiency have been reported to have a decreased risk due to the anti-inflammatory properties of turmeric.

Another category of herbs for diabetes is that of antihypertensive herbs. These herbs reduce blood sugar levels by blocking the enzyme that causes the release of excessive amounts of insulin. They also improve the sensitivity of the insulin receptors, thus lowering the blood sugar levels.

For safe consumption, it is recommended that these herbs for diabetes be prescribed by a qualified homeopath. Herbs that are to be taken with aqueous extract must not be mixed with other herbal treatment for diabetes and herbal medicines. Herbs that act on the enzymes cannot be consumed with other herbs. When in doubt, consult your local homeopathic health practitioner. Do not self-medicate.

Amino Acids are herbs for diabetes that inhibit the action of the insulin enzyme. It also prevents the glycosylation (break down of sugars). The combination of an extract with lactic or glycan citrate produces a lipolytic enzyme. The lipolytic effect results in a reduction of plasma glucose, insulin resistance, and accumulation of body fat. Long-term safety of these extracts has not been established in healthy subjects.

Herbal Medicines:

Unlike many Diabetes herbs, Cinnamon Extract does not increase insulin sensitivity. It can lower plasma glucose and triglycerides, but has no effect on the insulin receptors. Thus it is considered as another safety profile of the plantain extract. Safety profile of cinnamon extracts for diabetes is similar to that of passionflower. The use of plants with unknown safety profile for treating diabetes has not been established.

Some herbs for diabetes can increase blood glucose levels by interfering with insulin's action. Most of these herbs have not been studied extensively in humans. However it is advisable to consult a naturopathic doctor or herbalist before using any herbal medicine for diabetes. This includes herbal supplements, vitamins and medicines containing vitamin D and other minerals. Diabetes patients must follow the advice of the doctor regarding use of herbal medicine.
