What is Zen Boids?
Zen Boids is an interactive desktop wallpaper that implements Craid Reynolds' boids algorithm and a raycasting system. On the Windows desktop, a user can drag the mouse to select multiple icons. If a box is dragged on the desktop, the agents will avoid the bounds of the box. Each agent uses raycasting to follow a natural path of avoidance.
Making a wallpaper
This program was initially programmed in C# and with the Monogame framework. Lines were draw in place of the Windows box for debugging purposes. After the logic for the agents was created, the debugging lines were hidden and Wallpaper Engine was used to apply the program to the desktop.

Raycasting and Boids are two of my favorite algorithms in computing. This project was a chance to combine the two into a single program. The process of combining them brought about some challenges, especially with performance. The program creates two hundred agents on the screen, all of which have to cast multiple rays simultaneously. This necessitated optimization changes.
