Hendricks Assessment Retake Policy - Biology and Physics
At Waterford Union High School it is our mission to ensure all students learn. Here is the retake policy for assessments to guide students in the process of learning the biology/physics content.
Quick Checklist: Retakes are EARNED!
▢ Students must complete at least 90% of the formative and summative work for each packet to qualify for Mastery check or Summative retakes.
▢ Additional practice and/or LL will be required for a student to relearn material before being granted a retake.
▢ All Mastery Check retakes must be completed before a summative assessment and summative assessment retakes must be done within 2 weeks of original assessment.
More detailed information on each step can be found below. We learn from our mistakes, don’t be afraid to ask for help!
A guide for students: How to prepare for assessments:
Complete ALL parts of the unit(packet/notes/binder, handouts) with answers written in or attached. Be prepared to ask questions on topics that are difficult to reach mastery.
Use teacher and peer feedback to learn and grow. Ask questions if the feedback does not make sense and use those resources to study for assessments.
Stop in for extra help! Available during lunch and learn, as well as before and after school. If the material is challenging, come in for extra help.
The retake process provided here is meant to guide students in becoming independent learners, while allowing students an additional opportunity to display what they have learned. If a student feels their assessment score is not a true representation of their overall learning in that unit, then they should take the following steps:
Step 1:
Within 1-2 days after the assessment, the student should reach out to the teacher about a retake. The student and teacher will discuss a time for student/teacher collaboration and review of the content. In addition, the teacher and student will discuss ways that future scores will be a stronger representation of the student’s learning. Learning behaviors (including homework completion and extra practice opportunities), study skills as well as content mastery will all be areas of discussion.
Step 2:
Meet with the teacher during a Lunch and Learn(LL) to discuss mistakes and review material that was not mastered. At this point the teacher may provide the student with additional practice on the content that must be completed by a specific date.
Once the additional practice is complete….
Step 3:
Students will ask any additional questions, based on their ability to complete extra practice work. At this point, the student will then schedule a retake date . This retake must be completed before a summative assessment and summative assessment retakes must be done within 2 weeks of original assessment.
Additional Information:
Any student can request a summative assessment retake, however all students must follow all the steps listed above.
If students are not meeting the daily standards of the course, teachers can deny a retake at any time. Please communicate with your teacher, which is step 1.
Due to district timelines, assessments that occur within the last week of a grading term ay not have ample time for a retake option.
Students will receive the highest score on assessment.
Each summative assessment may only be retaken one time.
Note: If students feel the need to retake every assessment teachers will sit down with the student and discuss how they are preparing for these assessment.
