You can think of "The Cloud" as being a safe place to store your data and accessing various services. You can rely on it to be the primary home of your data that can be accessed from all of your computing devices. Apart from your data being readily available you don't need to worry about backing it up as the different service providers will attend to that for you.
The cloud allows all of your connected devices to work together in a seamless way. This means that changes made by one device will be automatically synchronised to other devices immediately [or when they are next online] so that you will always be working with the most up to date version of your data. There are many cloud service providers and you can use as many as you require.
