HELLEBANE (pronounced hell-bay-n) is the name of my art studio. The name is a fusion of Henbane and Hellebore - two poisonous flowers rich with folklore and history. Based in Vancouver, BC, I primarily work on genuine leather sourced locally, or upcycled vegan leather. My work draws on the vintage beauty of American trad, botanical lore, curiosities, and dark folk traditions. I have always had a love for the bold lines and symbolism of American traditional tattooing, a style with a long history that inspires my work as much as it covers my own skin.
I also create small taxidermy pieces with a primary focus on insects, arachnids, and bonecraft, with occasional work on small animals for select projects when it can be ethically sourced. My passion for entomology runs deep as I’ve been collecting bugs since childhood, always the odd kid with jars full of beetles or snails. Every specimen I use is ethically sourced and legal for sale within Canada. I never use any endangered or illegal animal materials.
HELLEBANE is where my love for traditional tattoo styles, entomology, sustainable practices, and the macabre meets old-world mysticism.
