What Are Heartworms ?


Heartworms disease in dogs is a serious disease that results in severe lung disease, heart failure, other organ damage, and death in pets. It is caused by a parasitic worm called Dirofilaria immitis.

The worms are spread through the bite of a mosquito. When a mosquito bites a dog, it ingests larval heartworms, which eventually circulate in the bloodstream of the infected dog.

Heartworms Life Cycle


  1. It all begins when the mosquito ingests blood with mmicrofilariae from an infected dog.

  2. the microfilariae beigns developing into infective larvae within mosquito.

  3. When the mosqutio feed on new host the infection larvae also enters in them

  4. Then the larvae migrates

  5. to the right side of the heart and develops into adult worms



What Are Heartworms ?
