MIA WEAVER

this isn't the first time you've heard this story. mia was bitten by a radioactive spider and became the one and only, areneid. but we have to go back in time a little so you can really understand how we got here.

mia weaver was born to a small family in queens, new york on september 13th. she had a brother already, older by 3 years. her parents, paloma and ted both worked. her mother was a secretary at a corporate office and her father worked for the postal service. her childhood was normal, she played with her older brother, and argued with him. her parents made sure she was exposed to just how amazing it was to live in a city with so many people, cultures and monuments. mia's mother's family was mexican, and while it had been a long time since they'd come from mexico, paloma made sure her daughter had plenty of interaction with her own culture. mia did well in school, actually she was gifted. she thrived in educational settings, and learned to love science and math. her parents did their best to foster that interest because they bother knew it would serve her well in the future.

when mia wase thirteen, she applied to an after school program at the private school for gifted public school kids. through this, she was able to earn a a partial scholarship to attend. the following year, mia began attending high school at queens polytechnic institute. at sixteen, her science class went on a a field trip to oscorp labs. while they were in the spider labs, one spider they were using for an experiment got loose. it climbed onto. mia's arm and bit her. 

through the bite, mia gained incredible powers. she could see better, hear better and gained a sort of danger sense she couldn't explain. she was also able to shoot webs from her wrist and climb walls. as someone previously afraid of spiders, this was all a lot for her and she originally intended to ignore it. 

she couldn't ignore it any longer when her mother was mugged on the street, robbed and beaten and there was nothing mia could do about it because she hadn't been there. her mom was conscious long enough to give a statement, but eventually paloma weaver succumbed to her wounds. mia was heartbroken, and as soon as her coffin was in the ground, she swore that she would never not be there for someone again. from then on, she attempted to become a vigilante to catch the mugger who killed her mother and bring them to justice. it had a learning curve, but eventually she did figure out her powers, make a suit and catch the mugger. from then on, she went out as the vigilante known as areneid. she did have to quit the hockey team though so she wouldn't hurt anyone accidentally.
