ALICE WESTERGAARD

alice westergaard was born to queen elsa of arendelle and prince hans of the southern isles. elsa wanted nothing to do with hans and wanted her daughter to be raised in arendelle, but alice was taken from her before she could stop it. the newborn was under the care of nurses for the first year of her life. they were worried she was going to die due to her low body temperature. during that time elsa and her sister anna visited her often. elsa wasn’t ready to be a mother yet, but she cared for her daughter nonetheless. being queen and worried about the optics of her having a daughter out of wedlock, she intended to keep alice secret until she was old enough to talk, but not longer. alice spent four years in arendelle before king beast made the decision to send all villains and their children to the isle of the lost.

she was much too young to understand her parentage or why she was being separated from her mother. hans and his two sons from previous encounters were sent to the isle of the lost. alice was sent with them due to her connection to hans despite the fact that she was also elsa’s daughter. they made no exceptions.

alice grew up on the isle of the lost with her brothers. as she grew older, her father became more and more bitter about his children and his situation. hans wasn't the greatest father. he missed the time before he was forsaken and didn't know how to be a parent. the boys ran wild and alice was sick often. he didn't know how to take care of them so there were times when he just didn't. one thing he did teach alice was not to speak of her life on arendelle and as she was young, she soon forgot the life she had lived before the isle and most of her concrete memories of her mother.

alice and her siblings were mostly forced to fend for themselves and provide for her father who was used to being waited on hand and foot. this is what made alice turn to thievery and later take on her role as a messenger on the isle. she was frustrated, needing an outlet and somewhere to turn to when she couldn’t be home. it was much easier to be out than it was to be at home with her father. she was happy with her relative invisibility, besides being hans' daughter which didn’t earn her much respect at all, she was a nobody.

when she became a teenager, alice quickly found her way into even more seedy circles. even the isle had a worse side to it. she numbed her own pain and mood swings with the drugs and drink she could get her hands on. it was much easier to keep going when she didn't feel much of anything. when she wasn't totally numb, she'd pick fights or go out and have meaningless sex. her brother's vices of choice were smoking, gambling and fighting in gaston's club. alice's were more extreme because she had no interest in that scene. she liked the freedom of being on the streets. despite rarely being completely sober, she still managed to build up trust between the various factions. she was discrete and kept her mouth shut.

alice, like many vks, harbored jealousy about those living on auradon. she would have loved to live somewhere where she didn’t feel awful all the time or have to fight for her own survival. however, she didn’t voice these feelings, ever. the general culture on the isle forbade it and she didn’t need to make any new enemies. when the selected four, mal, evie, jay and carlos, were sent to auradon, she wasn’t jealous that they got to go to that prep school, she was jealous that they got so much attention. why were they special? she was happy though, as their leaving the isle opened up far more opportunities for her with mal and jay out of the picture. mal had ruled the isle, and jay was an extremely skilled thief. alice liked it when they were gone, she got a lot more clearance, even with the pirates taking over most of the space vacated by mal, evie, jay and carlos.

alice was repulsed by the four vks integration into auradon prep and the role mal had taken on. she thought it was obnoxious and harbored a grudge although it was unclear even to her whether it was against the four isle kids whom she saw on auradon news network or against the new king and his choice to only ‘save’ four vks while the rest of them continued to suffer and fight for themselves.

uma and her pirates took over the isle’s leadership and alice helped them when she needed to. her loyalties had only grown more fluid after mal left her territory on the isle wide open.

with vk day coming up, alice was less than excited. seeing the posters around the isle just made her annoyed. she wasn’t as hopeful as some of the younger vks. she’d graduated from dragon hall already so she had no shot at attending auradon prep as a student. she didn't want one anymore either.

she was amused by hades' attempt to repower the ember, having worked for hades a few times and finding him preferential to most of the villains she’d met. at least he had a sense of humor.

when audrey made her power grab with the scepter and caused uma and her pirates to leave the isle and join forces with the original four vks from the isle, alice did absolutely nothing, continuing on with her daily life as if nothing had changed. she’d become highly adaptable on the isle.

when the barrier was lifted after mal and her friends which now included the pirates and hades, saved audrey and everyone else, alice was surprisingly relieved.

the raising of the barrier allowed her to leave her home on the isle for the first time since she was taken there.

it also allowed alice’s powers which had been repressed by the dome to blossom. she struggled to control them as she’d never had anything that made her special like this before. nearly twenty years later and alice’s burgeoning powers allowed her to be identified as elsa’s daughter and returned to her mother and aunt in arendelle where she moved after the barrier was lifted. she maintained contact with her friends from the isle and her brothers, however largely cut off contact with her father.

alice took quite a while to adapt to living in arendelle. in some ways, she was determined to keep being who she had been on the isle. she thought it would be easy. she was going soft though, as she grew to love her new home with her mother, aunt and uncle. she found elsa had abdicated in order to take on her duties as the fifth spirit and allow anna to ascend to the throne. alice retained the title she had been born into, princess of arendelle, however whenever she grew accustomed to living on the mainland she was offered the chance to be a diplomat for the kingdom. there was a small amount of uproar from those more conservative courtiers and citizens of the kingdom, but anna believed that with some training alice would be a good addition. she had plenty of expertise interacting with difficult people and could give a new perspective as someone who hadn't been raised in arendelle. it was all very hopeful of queen anna and very nerve wracking for alice. she started taking classes at auradon prep during the summer. they weren't the usual classes the school taught, but a sort of crash course on how to speak publicly, learning about the kingdoms and just generally how to be a good diplomat.
