Exercise is vital to staying healthy as a human. Keeping the body in shape helps prevent a wide array of health problems including obesity, heart disease, and more. Furthermore, there are a wide range of exercises that can allow many different people to find one that works for them. However, when exercising how does one know if they've found a good level of intensity.
When exercising, a person's heart rate will go up. The heart will start beating faster and faster up to a certain point.
One way to gauge the intensity of an exercise is to use heart rates.
There are two main things to consider when using this method of gauging intensity: your Maximum Heart Rate and Target Heart Rate range.
On the next page is a calculator that allows one to calculate their Maximum Heart Rate and Target Heart Rate range for vigorous exercise using their age and Resting Heart Rate as well as some guidance from the American Heart Association on Exercise.
To calculate your Resting Heart Rate, measure your pulse when your have not done any physical activity recently(in the past half hour or so). Your pulse at this time is your Resting Heart Rate.
