Self  Qualify

If you can answer "Yes" to 10 or more of the following questions, your town is ready for the Healthy Texas Town Program:

• Population over 750

• Has Suffered Decades of Population Loss

• Has a High School

• Has an Inventory of Vacant Buildings

• Is Incorporated as a Municipality or is a County Seat

• Has Businesses that Want to Stop the Decline

• Has Citizens Willing to Work for Change

• Has Access to Local Resources and Networks

• Demonstrates Community Engagement and Involvement

• Has a Progressive City Council or County Commissioners.

• Has an Open-Minded Citizenry

• Has Existing Initiatives or Groups Focused on Improvement, such as a Chamber of Commerce

• Shows Evidence of Strong Community Spirit

• Has the Ability to Raise Funding

• Is Open to Being More than Just a Smaller Version of Larger Cities

• Is Interested in Promoting Sustainable Practices

• Has a History of Community Events and Festivals

• Has Active Partnerships with Nearby Towns or Cities

• Has Local Media Outlets (newspapers, radio, etc.) to Spread the Word

• Has Residents Interested in Developing Local Food Systems
