Healthspan Project
LIVING WELL
LIVING WELL
Australians over 65 experience a fall each year - the leading cause of injury-related hospitalisation in older adults.
Reduction in fall risk achievable through structured strength and balance training.
More than 30 years of industry experience, active ageing research and education.
The Healthspan Project translates the new Aged Care Act - and the movement science behind it - into practical education for the practitioners working with older Australians every day.
01 | Home & Community
A new integrated program changes how your clients fund and access home-based care - and what your documentation needs to reflect to support their plan. CHSP transitions no earlier than 2027.
02 | Quality & Standards
New standards across clinical care, dementia, diversity, governance, and nutrition. If you work in or with a registered provider, these apply to you - not just the organisation.
03 | Legal Risk
The Act establishes a formal duty of care for registered providers and responsible persons, with compensation pathways for older people. This changes the risk profile for contractors and consultants.
04 | Clinical Practice
Maintaining and improving independence is embedded as a core principle of the Act - the strongest mandate yet for evidence-based exercise prescription, falls prevention, and balance rehabilitation.
05 | Rights & Principles
All practitioners must demonstrate practice compatible with the new Statement of Rights. It's no longer aspirational. Providers are legally required to act compatibly with it.
06 | Primary Care
New alternative entry arrangements allow GPs - and other nominated health professionals - to refer patients directly into the aged care assessment pathway. A new responsibility and a new opportunity.
07 | Supported Decision-Making
Older people can now formally register a supporter to help them communicate and make aged care decisions. Practitioners must understand this role, its boundaries, and their obligations when working alongside one
For the first time, maintaining and improving independence in older people is embedded as a legislative principle - not a best-practice guideline. This is the regulatory foundation that makes evidence-based exercise prescription, falls prevention, and balance rehabilitation central to aged care, not supplementary to it.
"Older Australians deserve better than task-based care and watered-down health content. The Healthspan Project exists to close the gap between research and real-world outcomes - because longevity without capability isn't enough."
