Welcome to the website of the textbook, Healthcare Engineering, Analytics, and Decision Sciences: An Introduction by Sanjay Mehrotra PhD (Professor, Northwestern University), Kevin Bui, PhD (University of California, Irvine), and Hari Balasubramanian, PhD (Professor, University of Massachusetts, Amherst).
The textbook is suited for students (undergraduate or Masters) who have taken introductory courses in probability, basics of calculus, and linear algebra. Depending on the chapters used from the book, the developed courses can be introductory (e.g., Junior level) or more advanced (Senior/Masters level). Each chapter uses illustrative examples from relevant healthcare contexts to illustrate concepts. Each chapter also contains a Computational Lab section which introduces relevant software tools. Exercises at the end of each chapter needing data files are linked in PDF and can be downloaded. The R Scripts and other modeling languages (AMPL, Gurobi-Python) used in the chapters can be downloaded here.
We are releasing the first complete version of the textbook as a PDF file. While the material is copyrighted (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0 license), the PDF can be used by instructors and students for free. The preferred citation for this draft is below:
