Reflexology treatments

Reflexology is a gentle, non-invasive and holistic therapy based on the principle that there are reflex points in the feet, hands and ears that correspond to and mirror all of the organs, glands and parts of the body.
In a reflexology treatment, pressure is applied to these reflexes by the thumbs and fingers to stimulate thousands of nerve endings. This is combined with relaxation, massage and joint mobilization techniques, resulting in an overall sense of well-being and homeostasis (internal balance & stability) of the Mind, Body & Sole (excuse the pun!)
A reflexology treatment in general lasts from 30 minutes up to 1 or 2 hours. It is a clothed session with only the removal of shoes and socks as a requirement. I use a massage bed and luxurious natural cruelty free products like creme, wax and massage oils. You should feel deep relaxation at the end of a good session. How long that relaxation lasts is a good indicator of the effectiveness of the session. Pressure is applied to the feet and hands using specific thumb, finger and hand techniques. Stretch and movement techniques are also utilized to provide relaxation to the body.
★ Relaxes, relieves stress and calms the mind.★ Rejuvenates, re-energises and helps decrease fatigue.★ Enhances the natural healing mechanisms of your body for your whole well-being by stimulating thousands of nerve endings.★ Restores the body’s natural balance, including physical, emotional, mental & spiritual.★ Improves blood circulation.

What will I be able to tell you about your health?

I gage stress cues when carrying out a reflexology assessment. These show adaptation to stress. These are visual signs, such as callousing, knobby toes or bunions. Indications of stress are also seen as sensitivity to technique application or touch signs that I can perceive as pressure is applied. The assessment of such stress cues allows me to target areas of stress and to design a treatment of pressure technique application appropriate and to provide relaxation specific to each individual. Whilst foot reading is something I have thoroughly studied and have extensive knowledge around and therefore is often incorporated within your sessions, it’s important to remember that I cannot diagnosis or prescribe. Reflexology is a supportive complementary therapy, used alongside conventional medical help, not a replacement for it. You should seek medical help if you have an urgent or acute problem.

Reiki Treatments

Reiki is a type of Japanese energy healing technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It comes from the Japanese words “rei,” meaning universal, and “ki,” meaning life energy. Reiki is given by gently laying on hands over the different chakras and is based on the idea that "life force energy" flows through us.

If your "life force energy" is low, then you are more likely to get sick or feel stressed. On the other hand, if it is high, you are more capable of feeling balanced, being happy and healthy.

Everyone is different so may experience different feelings and sensations throughout a reiki session. Treatments may feel like having a wonderful glowing light that flows through and around you. Some of my clients see colours during a treatment, some experience warm or tingly sensations through their body. Others feel a sense of release or simply a deep sense of relaxation and calm.

Reiki treats the whole person including the physical body, one's emotions, the mind and the spirit, creating many benefits such as relaxation and feelings of peace, calm, safety and wellbeing.

Reiki is a simple, natural and safe method of spiritual healing and self-improvement that everyone can use. It can also work alongside all other medical or therapeutic techniques to relieve side effects and promote recovery.

Acupressure Treatments

Acupressure is a safe traditional Chinese medicine practice that involves treating blocked energy 'Qi', by applying precise pressure to specific points on the body and used to help relieve the symptoms of many common disorders. It's a bit like acupuncture, except it uses finger tips, the thumbs, palm (and sometimes the elbow) instead of using needles. By improving energy flow, acupressure can help with improving things like muscle pain or headaches.

In traditional Chinese medicine, pathways of energy called meridians flow within the body. Acupressure points lie along those meridians. If 'qi' is blocked at any point on a meridian, it's thought to cause health problems along that pathway. I apply pressure to specific acupressure points to restore healthy energy flow. The points chosen depends on your symptoms.

As meridians run throughout the whole body, pressure points used may be a long way from the site of the symptom. For example, a pressure point on the foot may be used to support with relieving a headache.

It is important that clients arrive promptly and, even if clients arrive late, sessions will need to finish when scheduled so it may not be possible to give you your full treatment time.

Reflexology & Reiki for little ones

Babies and little ones are especially responsive to reiki and reflexology. Often mothers will instinctively gently rub their children’s feet and hands when their child is cranky, crying, or uncomfortable.
Reflexology and Reiki are safe, effective and work very well for most babies and children.
Results for babies are often experienced immediately and can soothe a cranky baby or help to relieve tummy pains or constipation. Reflexology and Reiki can help children of all ages cope better with the stresses and illnesses of every day life. I can also teach family members how to apply simple gentle short reflexology techniques to children’s hands and feet. Small children are often intrigued with these techniques and can be taught simple self help routines on their hands to help with sleep, calm nerves or possibly help to assist breathing when a respiratory disorder is present.
Reflexology and Reiki with children can begin at birth and can be used as a valuable tool for parents to dissipate their children’s stresses in a gentle and nurturing way. These two therapies are particularly beneficial for babies who have experienced a difficult birth such as forceps or ventouse. Tiny bones of the skull will have experienced great pressure as a result of the use of these instruments, and it has been found that these bones can be marginally misaligned. Reflexology and Reiki can help with aiding to re balance the body, mind and soul in the gentlest of ways.
I have a adaptable approach to reflexology and reiki when treating toddlers. Being a mother myself, I know it can be unlikely to stay still for long and little ones can be easily distracted. Using their hands and feet and moving about with the help of a parent / carer makes a session really enjoyable and often entertaining for the child. When working with little ones, I fully engage them in their therapy in a fun way, through song and story incorporated with the moves and teaching them a breathing technique that is deeply calming and that I have taught my own 6 year old son as a relaxing soothing method. I'm always prepared to change position, help the client to move and adjust to a variety of unconventional positions or application of techniques. This is to give most comfort and security to the client while still aiming to gain maximum benefit from reflexology.
