Greetings HawkNation,
This is Mr Butler, your proud principal with a week five update.
Starting Tuesday, September 8th, all grade 1st - 8th (KG In-Person) students will be engaged in NWEA testing. NWEA is an assessment that provides our teachers, students and families with a snapshot of a student’s academic progress. Both IN-PERSON and VIRTUAL students will participate in NWEA. Please look for more information from your child’s teacher and school.
To provide information to our Warren employees and families, our COVID-19 data will be updated and shared each Friday on our district website under the COVID-19 tab. Data for August was posted today. Included in this data are the number of positive cases by school / facility as well as the total number of individuals (students and staff) who were required to isolate or quarantine. Individuals that are in isolation may or may not have COVID-19 and may or may not have been exposed within Warren schools/facilities. Isolation and quarantine are used to slow the spread of COVID-19. These numbers do not mean that a school or facility is unsafe for students and staff, rather that precautionary steps are being taken to protect all students and staff. We will continue to communicate with staff and families if they are identified as a close contact to a positive COVID-19 case.
I want to say thank you to our parents for partnering with us to help keep our classrooms safe. Our parents have done a great job of communicating with us and keeping their kids at home when they are not feeling well. We know attendance is a critical part of a student's success, but the safety of everyone is our top priority. Please continue to communicate with your child’s school if your son or daughter is experiencing symptoms consistent with COVID-19 or has been tested for COVID-19. In either situation, please keep your child at home.
Our breakfast and lunch distribution for all VIRTUAL students will continue to be Tuesday and Friday mornings from 8:00 - 9:30 at Moorhead Community Resource Center. Also, we have added Tuesday evenings from 4:30-6:00 as an additional distribution time. I would also like to remind our 6-12 students that we are offering a take home meal for your VIRTUAL Application Day.
Reminder: If you have a tech or device need, please submit a help ticket through IncidentIQ support system by clicking on Technology under the Explore Tab and then select Parent Tech Info. Families can also use this process or contact their child’s school to request a WIFI hotspot. We will continue to provide device support at Moorhead Community Resource Center Monday - Friday from 11:00 - 1:00. We have identified about 600 students who have not returned their device from this past spring. Please bring your device to Moorhead or your child’s school. Families will be billed for unreturned devices.
Never forgot! You are awesome, so wonderful and most of are YOU ARE LOVED!
In an effort to support families and teachers, families need only contact their virtual teacher and their home school for support. If in doubt, contact your teacher and they will support your needs.
Please ensure your family can log into Canvas. Canvas is the only way that building administrators can inform families when the teacher is out.Students can log into Canvas using their google email and password. If you don’t have it, please ask your teacher today.

Research indicates the importance of teaching children phonics as a preliminary step for learning to read. Phonics is the relationship between letters and sounds as well as the understanding of how those sounds connect to form words. Research also suggests that systematic instruction which incorporates word play (manipulating letters/sounds in words to change the word), writing words, and using manipulatives such as magnetic letters to create words are all effective strategies for teaching phonics.
We have added a new process for parents and caregivers to communicate their needs for technology support. If you have a tech or device need, please submit a help ticket through IncidentIQ support system by clicking on Technology under the Explore Tab and then select Parent Tech Info. We will continue to provide device support at Moorhead Community Resource Center Monday - Friday from 11:00 - 1:00.
The Warren Early Childhood Center is now enrolling children for both full day and half day preschool classes. ECC is a National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) accredited program and is rated a Level 4 center on Indiana’s Paths-to-Quality. Our staff works diligently to provide a safe and nurturing environment so the social and emotional needs of children can be met. We also believe in learning through play. Play is an important component of healthy brain development. It assists with developing social skills, thinking skills, problem solving and self-confidence; all the skills necessary for children to learn both academically and about the world around them. ECC accepts CCDF and On My Way Pre-K vouchers. Please call Mary Crabtree in our front office to make an appointment to register, 317-869-4751.
