Parents/Guardians-

To be eligible for this pathway, please understand the guidelines set forth by the Texas Education Agency.

  1. Students/Parents will be committing to this pathway for the nine week grading period.

  2. Reliable internet/Wifi or the means to provide consistent access to the internet.

  3. Student must complete assignments each day.

  4. Student attendance is monitored in the online platform. Students not completing assignments each day or logged in during the school day will be marked absent. PK-5 is 180 minutes online; 6th-12th grade is 240 minutes online

  5. A device can be checked out from the school. Parents/students are responible for any damages as described in the equipment use agreement.

  7. Some elective courses may have coursework that can only reasonably be completed in person. Some courses may require a student to obtain equipment from campus or possibly a schedule change if the course cannot be achieved online.

  8. Students and parents are responsible in maintaining communication with the child's teacher through Google Classroom (grades 3-12) or SeeSaw (grades K-2) to create a learning partnership.

  9. Conditions surrounding the COVID19 pandemic are continually evolving and this plan is subject to change based on federal, state, and local guidelines.

  12. This pathway is delivered through technology.

How do I obtain a commitment form for the 2020-21 school year?

The commitment forms will be part of your online registration. Please go to Skyward Family Access and complete the registration. For new students, registration is available at the campuses. Please call ahead and schedule an appointment.

Who needs to complete a commitment form?

All students will need to have a commitment form completed by July 23. This lets the district know your selected pathway.

What if my student wants to take courses online and some in-person because they are not offered virtually, what should I choose on the form?

Students may take the courses that are available online virtually, while still taking some courses in-person. Students who wish to take a combination of virtual and in-person courses should choose virtual on the commitment form. Only those students who plan to take all of their courses in-person should choose in-person on the commitment form.

As a part of our return to school plan, we are listing the following two classes as exemptions from Virtual Learning due the inability of meeting lab/class project requirements or inability to offer the hands-on materials needed to complete the content or TEK requirements. If your child signed up for these classes, we will offer an opportunity to change their schedule or the option to attend these classes on campus. You may contact our counselor, kristen.reaves@hawkinsisd.org for more information.

Welding 2/Dual Credit

Robotics

BIM2

Students that are participating in the Traditional Classroom will not require a schedule change.

When is the commitment form due and once I commit, is it finalized immediately?

Families are asked to complete the commitment form that was first sent on Wednesday, July 22. The form should be completed by 8:00 pm. on July 27.

If you already submitted the commitment form sent via Skyward or email and wish to change your selection prior to the deadline, you should send an email to the campus principal.

If the District does not receive a commitment form for a student by July 27, it will be automatically assumed that the student will attend on-campus classes on the first day of school. However, if it is the family’s intention for a student to participate in on-campus instruction, families are asked to complete the form accordingly by the July 27th deadline.

Families will have a window of opportunity to change their instructional environment at the end of the first nine weeks of school, which falls on October 9.

Why does HISD need to know so quickly?

While HISD understands that many questions remain regarding the new school year and that family sentiments may change as COVID-19 conditions evolve, timely feedback is critical to HISD in preparing for the first day of school on August 13. The District must have data to work with when planning for master schedules, classroom space, the new remote learning pathway and how we can best meet the social-emotional needs of our students when they return.

The commitment form is due on July 27th. This leaves 4 business days before new teachers begin their HISD training on Monday, Aug 3rd. The District wants to provide all staff with the strongest foundation possible to prepare for the needs of all students.
