My name is Ha B. Vien - a Ph.D. Candidate in Public Administration at North Carolina State University. My research interests focus on the following areas:
Policy Process, Environmental/Energy Policy, Institutions.
SDGs, Sustainability for Public and Nonprofit Organizations, including Higher Education Institutions.
In my free time, I enjoy traveling with my family—my husband and my lovely kids. My heart finds serenity in the embrace of fresh, open air and the beauty of national parks. The time spent in nature also nurtures my passion for sustainability.
4/2025. For the first time, I attended Midwest Political Science Conference (MPSA) 2025 in Chicago, IL. This is such a large conference that it left me overwhelmed, as I was surrounded by the entire American political science community, especially from the Midwest and also Public Policy scholars too. I successfully presented, together with my co-author, our paper titled: "International Environmental Agreements and the Adoption of Renewable Energy Policies". I loved the conference and promised to come back next year with my solo article!
3/2025. I am happy to announce that I received ASPA 2025 Founders' Fellows Award. As the most competitive award by America Society of Public Administration (ASPA) in the US, ASPA Founders' Fellows Award recognizes the exceptional accomplishments and potential of the next generation of public servants in both academic and practitioner communities.
3/18/2025. I have successfully defended my prospectus, titled: "The Dynamics of U.S. Energy Policy Change: Local Drivers, Boundary-Spanning Effects and Institutional Grammar Analysis". This achievement was made possible thanks to the supervision and guidance of my dissertation committee members: Dr. Christopher Galik (chair), Dr. Thomas Birkland, Dr. Jeremiah Johnson, Dr. Serena Kim, and Dr. Graham Ambrose. With this, I am now a Ph.D. Candidate (ABD status), and ready for the academic job market from this Fall 2025.
2/2025. I joined Institutional Grammar Doctoral Student Workshop 2025 at Arizona State University in Tempe, AZ. The event provided an in-depth learning experience guided by the IGRI Directorate: Saba Siddiki, Ute Brady, Ph.D., and Christopher K. Frantz. This fellow is sponsored by Center for Policy Design & Governance at Syracuse University.
8/2024. As a RCEI's Fellow, Ha Vien, Jaqueline Nichi, and Benjamin Weinger received support to attend the Summer School in Sustainability Governance in the Anthropocene.
8/2024. I had a chance to join Rutgers Summer School on Sustainability and Governance in the Anthropocene, which is fully funded by NSF through Rutgers Climate and Energy Institute (RCEI), at Rutgers University - New Brunswick.
10/2024. I received the teaching certificate from North Carolina State University. To get such certificate, the awardee have to fulfill the requirements from NC State's Graduate School:
