The sugar in the mouth invites bacteria to have their most favorite source of sustenance. Then they consume sugar, they leave behind the acid which can be quite dangerous for the tooth’s enamel. Once the enamel is gone, inner part, known as dentin, gets exposed against germs and infections, leading to the severe deterioration of teeth, gums and jawbone.

Well, the easy solution here is to drink water after consuming sugary foods. You may like the aftertaste but you should let the sugar to stick with the inside walls of your oral cavity for very long. When you drink water, you encourage two things which avoid bad effects of sugar. First one is that your mouth gets hydrated well. It is particularly important for saliva production of your mouth. The second thing is associated with the washing away of sugar remnants, leading to the risk of your teeth to get infected getting averted. In fact, you can move a step further by cleaning your teeth 30 minutes after drinking water. Make sure that you are delaying this much as brushing your teeth right after sugar intake can actually mean you are mixing sugar with the toothpaste, making things even worse.

While it is pretty important to take care of your oral hygiene by brushing, flossing, rinsing, and consumption of dental and oral health friendly foods, you also need to make sure that you are visiting your dentist on regular basis. Regular dental visits help you ensure that your teeth are free of any infections and diseases.
