Hassan Hayat

(Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning Researcher)

I am serving as a research scientist at the Computer Vision and Robotics Institute, Universitat de Girona, Spain. My current project focuses on creating a system that autonomously classifies skin lesions as either benign or malignant melanoma, a form of skin cancer, eliminating the necessity for manual annotation by doctors. This innovation aims to streamline the diagnostic process, saving valuable time for medical professionals, and enhancing the accuracy of early-stage melanoma predictions. This work is a part of the iToBoS (Intelligent Total Body Scanner for Early Detection of Melanoma project under the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation program.

I completed my Doctoral degree in Network and Information Technologies from Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (Spain) under the supervision of Prof. Agata Lapedriza Garcia and Prof. Carles Ventura Royo. I was also a member of the AIWELL Artificial Intelligence for Human Well-being Research Group.

I researched the subjective nature of emotions in designing affective-based computational systems and wrote a dissertation with the title "Modeling of Emotional Subjectivity in Affective-based Predictive Systems".

I completed my Master's degree in Computer Science and Technology from Nanjing University of Science and Technology, China, and a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science from Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology, Pakistan.

My primary research interest is in the area of robustness and generalization of neural networks, representation learning, self-supervised learning, reinforcement learning, explainable AI, domain adaptation, and knowledge discovery.
