이식은 분리되어 있던 것 사이의 경계가 흐려지고, 연결되는 순간이다. 교차의 순간, 중첩의 시간에 타자는 내 일부가 되고, 사물은 공간의 경계를 흐린다.
검은 나무 사이에서 녹물이 떨어지고, 아래의 박피된 수풀을 적시며 점차 검게 물들인다. 위아래 48쌍의 나뭇가지는 흐려지며, 연결된다.

Transplantation is the moment when boundaries between what was once separated begin to blur—and connection takes root. In the crossing of thresholds and the overlapping of time, the Other becomes a part of me, and objects dissolve the edges of space.

Rust-colored liquid drips from between blackened branches, gradually soaking and darkening the stripped thicket below. The 48 pairs of branches above and below blur into each other—until they connect.

작업의 중심에는 영도의 한 신축 아파트와 그 앞에 놓인 의자가 있다.주체적이고 감성적 라이프스타일의 행복한 여성을 상징화한 퍼소나와 인간을 위한 가장 조화로운 공간을 의미하는 단어의 합성어로 이루어진 이름을 가진 그 아파트는 원래의 혈관같던, 어디로든 통하던 길을 뚝 끊어내고 높은 담을 세웠다. 그 담에 다리 하나 없는 의자가 놓여있다. 길거리에-혹은 아파트의 담에- 이식된 그 의자는 담을 다리로 쓰며 경계를 흐리고, 끊어진 연결을 다시 잇고 있다.나는 의자의 결여된 부분에 조각을 이식하기로 한다. 이식된 다리는 단순히 기능을 복구하는 것이 아니라, 새로운 관계와 상호작용을 만들어내는 매개체로 작용한다. 이식을 통해 인간과 비인간(사물, -것) 사이의 경계를 흐리고, 다른 방식의 연결을 시도하며, 나아가 그 사물이 만드는 동일 작용에 동참하는 것이다. 조각에는 이식의 경험 뒤, 납득할 수 없지만 납득해야만 했던 경문들이 흐리게 쓰여 있다. 부제인 <난 늘 낮인지 밤인지 착각한다>는 이식 수혜자의 노트에서 발견한 마지막 기록이다.

I Always Mistake Day for Night

At the center of this work is a newly built apartment complex in Yeongdo, and a chair placed in front of it.
The apartment, whose name is a compound of a persona symbolizing a happy, independent, and emotionally attuned woman and a term referring to the most harmonious space for human life, has severed what were once vein-like paths—routes that connected everywhere—and enclosed itself with a high wall.

On that wall sits a chair missing one leg.
Installed on the street—or on the wall itself—the chair uses the wall as its substitute leg, blurring boundaries and reestablishing a connection that had been cut off.

I decide to graft a sculptural leg onto the chair’s missing part.
This graft is not merely a restoration of function, but a medium that generates new relationships and interactions. Through this act, the boundary between human and non-human (object, thing) is blurred, proposing an alternative mode of connection and, further, a way of participating in the operations that the object itself produces.

Faint inscriptions appear on the surface of the sculpture—phrases that could not be understood, yet had to be accepted, following the experience of transplantation.
The subtitle, I Always Mistake Day for Night, is the final entry found in the recipient’s notebook.

전시를 마친 작업은 갈 곳이 없다. 팔수도 보관할수도 없는 작품을 그러모아 아무도 없는 농로에서 태워버렸다. 태우고 남은 재를 가지고 유기물에서 무기물로의 전환이니, 완전한 이식이니 하는 미사여구를 덧붙여 행위를 장식하거나, 다른 무언가를 만들어 볼 생각이었으나, 그냥 쓰레기 봉투에 담아 집으로 가져왔다.

Works that have completed their exhibition have nowhere to go.
Unable to be sold or stored, I gathered them and burned them on an empty country road. With the ashes that remained, I considered adorning the act with phrases such as a transformation from organic to inorganic matter, or a “complete transplantation,” perhaps even making something else out of it. Instead, I simply put the ashes into a trash bag and brought them home.

예비 예술인 최초 발표 지원 사업의 일환으로 제작된 작품<흐리고 연결하기>는 2개월의 사전 워크숍, 1개월의 캠프, 2개월의 작업, 2주간의 전시 끝에 쓸모를 잃고 10분 만에 소각 되었다. 사업 동안 만든 세 개의 작업을 두고 예술인 복지 재단의 담당자는 이렇게 말한다. "작업의 지속성을 확인할 수 없어 예술인 등록이 어렵습니다"

The work Blurring and Connecting, produced as part of the First Presentation Support Program for Emerging Artists, went through two months of pre-workshops, a one-month residency, two months of production, and a two-week exhibition—only to be burned in ten minutes, rendered useless.

Of the three works created during the program, a representative from the Artist Welfare Foundation remarked:
“Due to the lack of continuity in the work, we cannot recognize you as a registered artist.”

불상의 형상은 평온과 초월을 뜻하지만, 그것을 이루는 재료는 카페인과 설탕 - 중독과 소비를 상징하는 물질들이다.
상징의 숭고함과 재료의 속성은 충돌하며, 그 사이 의미의 균열이 발생한다. 해탈을 상징하는 형상이 가장 일시적이고 소모적인 자극으로 만들어질 때, 우리는 그 얄궂음 속에서 모순을 발견하게 된다. 충돌, 재현-형식적 차용-과 재현의 재료-물질적 속성-의 중첩으로 드러나는 모순의 실루엣을 통해 해탈을 갈망하면서도 현실에 얽매이는 아이러니한 존재조건을 마주하게 된다.

The shape of the Buddha symbolizes peace and transcendence, but the materials that form it—caffeine and sugar—are substances that represent addiction and consumption.

The sublime symbolism of the form clashes with the nature of its materials, creating a crack in meaning. When the form that symbolizes enlightenment is made of the most transient and consumable stimuli, we are confronted with the irony of this contradiction. Through the silhouette of this contradiction—collision, reproduction, formal borrowing, and the overlap of material properties—we face the paradoxical condition of longing for enlightenment while still bound by the realities of consumption and addiction.

〈무난함을 위한 형식적 배치>는 제도와 제약이 요구하는 무난함의 논리를 드러내는 설치, 퍼포먼스 작업이다. 청년 예술가들은 제도 속에서 단지 형식적으로 배치되는 존재로 다뤄지며, 흔적을 남기지 못한 채 밀려난다. 본 프로젝트는 이에 대한 당 전시 기획의 낭만적 서사와, 동시에 요구된 현실적 제약의 충돌지점을 드러내는 파편화된 신체 조각들로 구성된다. 조각들은 흔적을 남기려는 동작을 반복하지만, 실제로는 아무 흔적도 남기지 못하는 무력과 소진의 장면을 연출한다. 그렇게 서서히 마모되고, 때로는 작동이 멈추거나 파손되기도 한다.

조각들은 제약을 회피하거나 무너뜨리지 않는다. 오히려 금지의 언어를 제목이자 구조로 끌어들여, 준수하는 형식을 취하면서도, 그 속의 모순을 비춘다. 이는 단순한 형식적 배치를 넘어, 청년 예술인이 흔적을 남기는 방식에 대한 질문임과 동시에 진열되며 전시하는 청년작가로서 취하는 전략적-소극적- 저항이기도 하다.

Formal Arrangement for Blandness is an installation and performance work that exposes the logic of “blandness” demanded by institutional constraints. Within such systems, young artists are often treated as entities formally arranged within the framework—present yet unable to leave a trace, displaced without acknowledgment.

The project consists of fragmented bodily sculptures that reveal the collision between the exhibition’s romantic narrative and the imposed practical restrictions. These sculptures repetitively enact gestures of leaving traces, yet no actual mark remains, presenting scenes of futility, exhaustion, and gradual erosion. Some sculptures eventually cease to function or collapse altogether.

Rather than evading or overturning prohibitions, the work internalizes them—transforming the language of restriction into both its title and structural principle. By adhering to form while reflecting its contradictions, the piece transcends mere formal arrangement. It becomes a question of how young artists leave traces at all, embodying a strategic, passive form of resistance that emerges through the act of exhibiting itself.

작업 연계 워크숍 및 퍼포먼스<흔적을 남기지 말 것> 에서는 참여자가 자유롭게 작업물 또는 테이블 위에 흔적을 남기도록 하되, 작가 본인이 반대로 제약의 주체로 등장해 그들을 감시하거나 방해했다. 제약은 실시간으로 추가되어 공간 곳곳에 부착되었고, 수동적으로 제약을 받아들일 것이라 생각했던 참가자들은 오히려 제약 사항 그 자체를 수정하거나 가려버렸고, 심지어는 제약의 주체인 작가를 테이프로 구속하는 등의 행동을 보였다.

In the associated workshop and performance Do Not Leave Traces, participants were invited to freely leave marks on their works or on the table surface. In contrast, the artist assumed the role of the enforcing authority—observing, intervening, and imposing restrictions in real time. These constraints were continuously added and posted throughout the space. However, contrary to the artist’s expectation that participants would passively accept the imposed rules, they began to subvert them—modifying or covering the restrictions, and even going so far as to physically bind the artist, the very agent of constraint, with tape.

전시 중 가장 기억에 남는 순간은 이명박, 나경원, 오세훈 등의 'VIP'가 방문한 순간이었는데, 그들은 전시장 건너편에서 청년예술인의 작품들에는 눈길도 주지 않고 빠르게 지나갔다. 본 작업이 전시된 전시 <29x15 Youth Trace in Seoul>은 청계천 복원 20주년 기념으로 기획된 청년예술제의 일환이었다.

The most memorable moment during the exhibition was when “VIPs” — including a former president, the mayor of Seoul, and several members of the National Assembly — visited the venue. They walked quickly past, never once glancing at the works of the young artists displayed across the hall. The exhibition 29x15 Youth Trace in Seoul, in which this work was presented, was part of a youth art festival organized to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Cheonggyecheon Restoration Project.

전시도중, 나는 한 작업의 오브제를 몰래-사실은 대놓고- 바꾸었는데 이를 인지한 사람은 별로 없었다.
