On August 9, on her little "Superintendent Update" newsletter, Superintendent Torres-Rodriguez announced an end to Hartford Public Schools summer programming.
Torres-Rodriguez wrote that there had been "several successful weeks of high quality instruction..." Students "were now back on track academically" and "these students are now better prepared to succeed in the new school year! "
And of course there is no data to back up this rhetoric and no board of ed member will ever ask her to prove the success of the summer programs which cost the district millions of dollars.
The superintendent then announced that 38 students received diplomas after going through HPS summer programming, because sometimes ten months just isn't enough.
