I am an Assistant Professor (SG), Media Studies in the Faculty of Arts, Media, and Design, at South Asian University. I am also the Coordinator of Media Research, Academic Projects and Resource Mobilisation there. My scholarship is situated in media and communication studies, critical data studies, infrastructure studies, and political economy. I have conducted research on media policy, political economy of media, media industry, communication for social change, digital rights, and online journalism. My recent research focuses on information and communication technology for development (ICT4D), digital identification, media infrastructure, biometric governance, digital state, and digital transformation. I am currently researching national digital identification systems in Nepal, to understand their relationship with governance, the global economy, citizenship and social change. My next research project focuses on digital/data infrastructure and data centres in South Asia. My research has been published in journals such as Information Technology for Development, First Monday, Journal of Digital Media & Policy, European Bulletin of Himalayan Research, Studies in Nepali History and Society, Bodhi, Media Adhyayan, and Samaj Adhyayan. I serve at the editorial boards of journals, Communication, Culture, & Critique, and Samaj Adhyayan (Previously Media Adhyayan).
