• HARMONY TWENTY-TWO HTT-9 — biggest strength: 13mm dynamic drivers, ENC call noise cancelling with a 4-mic setup, Bluetooth 5.4 and a 6-hour/40-hour battery with a 10-minute fast charge that returns 100 minutes of playback.
• HARMONY TWENTY-TWO HTT-9 — biggest trade-off: IPX5 only, which handles sweat and light rain but not a soaking, and the earbuds are not the lightest of the two.
• GYKLCR Earbuds Headphones — biggest strength: IPX7 waterproofing and a genuinely tiny 3g-per-bud build, which is the combination that matters most when kids are rough on gear.
• GYKLCR Earbuds Headphones — biggest trade-off: A shorter 5-hour single-charge life, Bluetooth 5.3 instead of 5.4, and no call-focused noise cancelling.
• Who each is for: HARMONY TWENTY-TWO HTT-9 suits a child who takes calls, listens for long stretches and wants fuller sound; GYKLCR suits a child who wears earbuds in the rain, around water or for short bursts where weight matters more than runtime.
This is the more "grown-up" of the pair. The heart of it is a 13mm dynamic driver — physically larger than what you normally find in budget in-ear buds — paired with a 20 Hz to 20,000 Hz frequency range and 98 dB sensitivity at 32 ohm impedance. Translated out of spec-sheet language: it should push noticeably more low end than a small-driver bud, and it should be easy to drive from a phone or tablet without straining. For a child listening to music, watching videos or playing games, that fuller low end is usually the difference between "these sound cheap" and "these sound good."
The second thing that stands out is the call side. ENC with four microphones is aimed at the person on the other end of the call, not at you — it filters the noise your mic picks up so your voice comes through cleaner in a noisy room, a car or a busy street. Two caveats worth being honest about. First, ENC is not the same as ANC; it doesn't quiet the world for the listener. Second, the data sheet lists "Active Noise Cancellation" under noise control while the description explicitly separates ENC from ANC, so I'd treat the call-clarity benefit as the reliable part and not expect heavy ANC-style quieting. Battery is the other headline: 6 hours per charge, 40 hours total with the 400 mAh case, and a 10-minute top-up giving roughly 100 minutes of listening. That fast-charge number is the one parents actually feel — a child who forgot to charge before a car ride can be back in business while putting shoes on.
GYKLCR Earbuds Headphones: Who It's For
GYKLCR takes the opposite approach: go small, go tough, keep it simple. At 3 g per earbud, these are the kind of buds a child can forget they're wearing — and that matters more than it sounds, because the most common reason kids stop using earbuds is that they hurt after twenty minutes. The compact charging case is described as lighter and smaller than typical, and the plastic-and-silicone enclosure with a "bud" shape is designed to nestle rather than plug deep. For small ears, that's usually the more comfortable geometry.
The standout spec is IPX7. That's a real step above the IPX5 on the HARMONY unit — it means rain, sweat and even a shower are within the design brief, with the obvious exception of swimming or submerging in a way that lets a bud fall out. If your child walks to school in wet weather, plays outdoor sports, or is simply the kind of kid who drops things, IPX7 is the feature you'll be grateful for. Audio is a dynamic driver with a composite vibration membrane intended to reduce distortion and 3D/binaural stereo processing, plus Bluetooth 5.3 with a claimed range beyond 10 meters and one-step pairing that connects when you open the case. Battery runs about 5 hours per charge and 30 hours total in the case, with roughly an hour to full charge. Touch controls handle volume, playback, calls and the voice assistant.
Buy it if: your child is hard on gear, wears earbuds in damp conditions, or has smaller ears that reject heavier buds. Skip it if: long battery life is the priority, or if your child makes a lot of calls in noisy places — there's no ENC-style mic noise handling here, and 5 hours per charge is a real step down from 6. As with the other pair, the listed age range is Adult, so fit and supervision still apply.
• Best for call clarity → HARMONY TWENTY-TWO HTT-9. Four-mic ENC is built specifically to clean up your voice for the person on the other end.
• Best for battery life → HARMONY TWENTY-TWO HTT-9. 6 hours per charge and 40 hours total beats 5 and 30.
• Best for a forgotten-charge morning → HARMONY TWENTY-TWO HTT-9. 10 minutes gets you about 100 minutes of playback.
• Best for water and weather → GYKLCR Earbuds Headphones. IPX7 versus IPX5 is a meaningful gap for rain, showers and sweaty sports.
• Best lightweight in-ear headphones for children → GYKLCR Earbuds Headphones. 3 g per bud is about as light as wireless gets.
• Best for the newest Bluetooth → HARMONY TWENTY-TWO HTT-9. Bluetooth 5.4 versus 5.3, both with roughly 10 m range.
• Best for bigger, bassier sound → HARMONY TWENTY-TWO HTT-9. A 13mm dynamic driver is the larger of the two.
• Best for smaller ears and quick pairing → GYKLCR Earbuds Headphones. Compact case, silicone-tipped bud shape and one-step pairing on case open.
• Best all-rounder for a school-age kid → HARMONY TWENTY-TWO HTT-9, unless water exposure is the deciding factor.
For children, I'd buy the HARMONY TWENTY-TWO HTT-9. The 13mm driver, the four-mic ENC for calls, and the 6-hour/40-hour battery with a 10-minute fast charge simply cover more of what a kid does in a day — music, videos, games and the occasional call home. In my opinion it's the better-rounded pick for children who use earbuds daily and mostly stay dry. I'd only switch to GYKLCR if your child is genuinely rough on electronics, plays outdoor sports in the rain, or has small ears that need the lightest bud available — IPX7 and 3 g per earbud are real advantages there. Check the current price on Amazon before deciding, since value at your budget is the one thing specs can't answer for you.
In my opinion HARMONY TWENTY-TWO HTT-9 is the better default for children because of the larger 13mm driver, ENC call clarity and 6-hour/40-hour battery. GYKLCR wins if water resistance and light weight matter more than runtime.
GYKLCR is the lighter of the two at 3 g per earbud, which suits smaller ears and longer wear. HARMONY TWENTY-TWO HTT-9 is still an in-ear design with S/M/L tips, but it's the heavier pair overall.
Read carefully: HARMONY TWENTY-TWO HTT-9's ENC works on your microphone during calls, not on the noise you hear. Both data sheets list Active Noise Cancellation under noise control, but neither promises the deep quieting you'd get from a dedicated ANC headphone.
