Indian Epics are full of heroic, clever, and interesting women. My storybook project will cover the stories of Uloopi, Sita, and Gandhari. Each of these women has a unique story and characteristics, like strength and cleverness, that make studying them worthwhile. Each one of them is a princess entwined in a love story that does not always have a happy ending. Let me give you a little introduction into each of their stories.
Uloopi is a character in the Mahabharata and one of the four wives of Arjuna. She is a Naga princess which means she is a snake creature that can shift from human to snake form. Her father rules an underwater kingdom in the Ganga river. Uloopi is a very strong character and is quite capable of holding her own. She is a trained warrior as well. The part of her story that I found most interesting involves the death of one she loves most, but you'll have to visit her page of the storybook to find out what happens!
Sita is a name you are very familiar with by now. Maybe something you did not know is that she is an Avatar for Lakshmi the Hindu Goddess of good character, good fortune, prosperity, success, and happiness. She is a strong character that goes through many trials. A lot of her time is spent in the jungle in exile with Rama which cannot be fun for a princess. In my storybook, I want to focus more on her origin story and her love with Rama. I want to try and show more of her story that was not told in great depth in the Ramayana.
Gandhari is the third story in the storybook. She is the most interesting character I think. She is a very devoted wife blindfolding herself and vowing not to see if her husband cannot. She also is the mother of a hundred sons called the Kauravas. Her story has a very sad ending. Gandhari has to go through a lot in her life and is the epitome of a strong woman.
