For a while now, hangouts windows have been poping up on top of other windows, even though I have it set up so it doesn't. Right now, right clicking on the hangouts icon in chrome, going to settings, and unchecking "Keep hangouts on top of other windows" means that I get both the window (on top of other windows) and the toast in the corner.

In all respects the two Hangouts windows (that of the extension and that off the app) look identical - have the same options and are the same thing. The only difference is that the extension window cannot be started with a launcher, that is: a command within a .desktop file. Do NOT resize OR minimize the VLC window because it will affect the resolution of your screen share. If you want to get it out of your way while streaming to hangouts, just move it off-screen WITHOUT resizing it, or just pretend it's not there.

So I use Google Hangouts as my chat client, and I would like to have a special hook for managing Hangouts windows (namely, tiling them and swapping them down, so that they don't pop up in the master window pane).

where I have imported XMonad.StackSet as W, and I later append myManageHook to XMonad's manageHook (my entire config file is provided below, for reference). As I pointed out in the above code, catching Hangouts by title is not working. To have Hangouts do what I want, I currently catch it via the window role name, which awkwardly requires me to force pop-up windows into the tiling window layer. As my code suggests, I am able to catch other windows (i.e. bashrun, but I have also tried xfce4-terminal, inkscape, gimp, and emacs) by the WM_NAME property.

At one point I noticed that for all of the windows I could catch via title, the name property is labeled "WM_NAME(STRING)" by xprop, as opposed to "WM_NAME(UTF8_STRING)" for Hangouts. I therefore suspected that the problem might be due to the fact that XMonad's ManageHook is not catching UTF8_STRING properties, but falsified this suspicion by successfully catching and floating gimp via both the WM_NAME (which was a STRING) and _NET_WM_NAME (which was a UTF8_STRING) properties.

I had a Google Hangout with a friend today. There were 3 windows: one "big" with her, one small with me, one small with her. Even the "big" window was small, less that a quarter of my screen (at "best resolution for retina display"). I could not find a full-screen button, nor did clicking any of the buttons on the Hangout screen do anything.

Also, from my experience by doing this. I'm still able to surf in another window of the the same browser with out affecting the size of anything. Meaning, when you make your video smaller or larger in the "Hangout window" it will NOT affect all other opened windows of the same browser.

I want to open a new tap with a google hangouts link using javascript and window.open(). The link starts with 'meet.google.com' and not with http:// or Adding http:// or https:// infront does lead to an 500 error. But if I launch a link without http:// or https:// infront, my flask application thinks it is a local link and hence I end up with ' :5000/meet.google.com'? Any idea how to solve this?

This time Google has made sure that all core functions of the hangouts can still be used in the web version. It remains exciting to see what further adjustments Google, now part of the Internet company Alphabet, will make to its products.
