My high school had a team that participated in the Solar Cup, a competition to build sustainable boats that not only raced in terms of speed but also endurance.

My role in this team was working on the mechanical aspects of the boat, such as the gear ratios, drive-train, and the push-pull turning system.

Not only did I work on every process of the boat such as sanding the frame, wiring all the electrical components, and implementing all the mechanical parts, but I also needed to know about how every single part functioned in our boat and how they related to one another, and relate this report to an audience of engineers.

The report listed every component we used as well as a justification of why we did it, such as matching motor curves to propeller curves.

The boat ran on battery power, but was charged by solar panels placed on the front and back of the boat. Using this system, we had endurance races of the highest number of laps able to be done under 90 minutes, and also a sprint race for the fastest boat.

Drive Train ReportCMHS- Electrical and Solar Report- 2018-2019My reports scored 24 and 25 out of 25, respectively. Our boat team placed 2nd overall in the rankings for our region, and the boat ran successfully in both races!
