Majoring in Stream Ecology and Water Pollution Control

Current Research

My current PhD research focuses on stream system impacted by effluent discharge from wastewater treatment plant. The water quality dynamics and ecological impacts are poorly understood. In fact, predictably worldwide more streams will receive effluent in the future.

My study sites are located in effluent-dominated streams across the state of Arizona: Santa Cruz; Salt and Rio de Flag River. I set gradient sampling sited downstream the effluent outfall for measuring physical and chemical water quality parameters such as temperature, dissolved oxygen, pH, total dissolved solid, alkalinity, ammonia, phosphate and nitrate.

In the dry arid region like Arizona, the farthest portion of effluent-dominated reach usually experiencing more frequent wetting and drying event depending on the rate of water discharged from wastewater treatment plant
