About

This workshop aims to support early-career researchers in the field of Human-Agent Interaction (HAI), especially those from nonnative English-speaking backgrounds. Despite increasing global engagement, many talented researchers face challenges in presenting their work internationally due to language barriers and limited opportunities. By providing a platform to present research in English in a supportive and peer-driven environment, this workshop will foster accessibility, visibility, and confidence among participants. Presentations will be followed by extended and moderated Q&A sessions to encourage inclusive discussion. The workshop also invites guest talks from early-career researchers who exemplify innovative HAI research, promoting role models for the next generation. Overall, the workshop seeks to lower entry barriers and empower underrepresented voices in the global HAI community.

call for Participation

This workshop targets early-career researchers in Human-Agent Interaction, especially non-native English speakers who may face challenges in international venues. We welcome participants from three categories:

Entry-Level Participants:
Those with little experience presenting at international conferences, seeking to build skills and confidence.
Main Conference Presenters:
Authors with accepted HAI 2025 papers—including poster presenters—who wish to refine their presentation skills in a supportive environment. Presentations will be conducted in a talk format, though speakers may choose to display their poster as visual support instead of slides.
Pioneering Researchers:
Early-career scholars with promising work in areas such as trust, empathy, explainability, or embodiment.

Note for Presenters: To fulfill the workshop's purpose of fostering diverse international participation, we also encourage submissions from researchers outside Japan.

Topics of Interest: Topics aligned with the core themes of HAI 2025, including but not limited to user modeling, explainability, trust, affective interaction, ethical design, embodiment, assistive technologies, and social dynamics.

Submission Guidelines: Please complete the Google Form linked on this page. All submissions must be made through this form. Please ensure you provide all the necessary information as requested.

After your abstract is accepted, we will ask you to submit your presentation materials at a later date.

If we receive a large number of applications, we may close abstract submissions early. We highly recommend submitting your abstract as soon as possible.

Horizons of Human-Avatar Interaction
Avatars, operated robots and CG agents, are developed for applications like remote work.Semi-autonomous avatars are especially promising, enabling a collaboration where humans and avatars complement each other; operators handle complex tasks while the avatar's autonomy manages high-load duties.While most research on semi-autonomous systems has focused on task efficiency, the interaction between the operator and the avatar (Human-Avatar Interaction) remains underexplored.This raises key questions: What interface designs enable seamless collaboration? Can a semi-autonomous avatar shift between a tool and an interactive partner?In this talk, I will present our research on designing interfaces and interaction to foster effective human-avatar collaboration in real-world settings.
