If you want a cleaner designed for heavy industrial wear and corrosion resistance in forklifts, choose Hacus; if you need a compact, professional-grade solvent specifically formulated for brake parts and sensitive components, choose Permatex Professional Strength Brake. This isn't about which can is bigger or which brand has a louder marketing campaign. It is about matching the right chemistry and build to the job at hand, especially when winter driving conditions demand absolute reliability from your braking systems.
• Hacus: Built with premium materials to withstand industrial stress and corrosion, making it ideal for rugged forklift maintenance; however, its specific focus on forklift models means it lacks the fine-tuned formulation for delicate automotive brake calipers found in passenger cars.
• Permatex Professional Strength Brake: Engineered as a dedicated cleaner for brake and parts applications with a compact design that fits tight spaces; yet, its small footprint and lighter weight suggest it is less suited for the heavy-duty, high-volume cleaning demands of large-scale industrial equipment.
• Who is Hacus for?: Fleet managers, forklift operators, and industrial mechanics who prioritize durability and corrosion resistance in harsh environments over portability.
• Who is Permatex for?: Automotive technicians, DIY enthusiasts, and drivers preparing vehicles for winter driving who need a precise, effective solvent for standard brake assemblies without the bulk of industrial gear.
Hacus enters the conversation as a product built for the trenches. When you are working with heavy machinery, particularly forklifts, the difference between a part that holds up and one that fails often comes down to how well the cleaning agent resists wear and mechanical stress. Hacus positions itself as a solution that offers excellent resistance to corrosion, which is a critical factor when dealing with metal components exposed to moisture, road salt, and grime.
The versatility of Hacus is rooted in its engineering for a wide range of forklift models. If your primary concern is maintaining a fleet of electric or internal combustion lift trucks, this product speaks directly to your needs. The manufacturer emphasizes that every unit undergoes testing for durability, reliability, and performance. This suggests a robust approach where the container and the formula inside are meant to handle the abuse of a warehouse floor or a construction site. It is not a product for the faint-hearted or for light-duty tasks.
However, this specialization comes with a trade-off. Because Hacus is engineered specifically for forklift compatibility and industrial durability, it may not be the most convenient choice for a mechanic working on a sedan or an SUV. The "FPE" branding mentioned in the features points to a specific lineage of forklift products, implying that while it is a leader in its niche, its application is somewhat narrow. If you are looking for a general-purpose cleaner that can jump between different vehicle types with equal ease, Hacus might feel too specialized. It is best suited for those who need a reliable partner for heavy equipment that faces constant mechanical stress and exposure to the elements.

Permatex Professional Strength Brake takes a different approach, focusing on precision rather than brute industrial force. The product name itself tells you exactly where it belongs: on brakes and parts. Unlike the forklift-centric Hacus, this cleaner is designed with the specific requirements of automotive braking systems in mind. This size advantage is crucial for mechanics who need to reach into tight wheel wells, clean intricate caliper pistons, or flush out dust from small crevices without dragging around bulky equipment.
The "Professional Strength" label implies a formulation that cuts through grease, oil, and brake dust effectively without leaving residues that could compromise braking performance. In the context of winter driving, where road salts and slush can wreak havoc on metal components, having a cleaner that thoroughly removes contaminants from brake lines and pads is essential. Permatex targets the user who values efficiency and specificity. You are not buying a generic industrial solvent here; you are buying a tool designed for the nuances of brake maintenance. The inclusion of the California note regarding the formula further suggests a rigorous adherence to environmental and safety standards, which is important for professionals operating under strict regulations.
That said, the trade-off lies in its capacity and scope. With dimensions of only 1 inch across and a single unit count, this is clearly a consumable item meant for specific, targeted jobs rather than a bulk supply for a whole fleet. It is not built to withstand the same level of mechanical stress or volume as the Hacus forklift cleaner. If you were to try to use this for cleaning massive forklift drums or heavy-duty industrial chains, the packaging and formulation simply aren't scaled for that workload. It is a surgical instrument compared to a sledgehammer. This makes it the superior choice for automotive owners and technicians who need a reliable, no-nonsense cleaner for their daily drivers or fleet cars, but it falls short for heavy industrial applications.
• Best for Industrial Durability → Hacus: If your priority is a product built to resist corrosion and mechanical stress in a factory or warehouse setting, Hacus is the logical choice due to its premium material construction.
• Best for Automotive Precision → Permatex: For cleaning brake calipers, rotors, and sensitive automotive parts where space is limited, Permatex offers the compact, focused solution needed for winter prep.
• Best for Heavy Equipment Compatibility → Hacus: If you maintain forklifts and need a cleaner engineered to fit various industrial configurations, Hacus covers that specific requirement better than any general cleaner.
• Best for Portability and Storage → Permatex: The tiny 1-inch footprint of Permatex makes it easy to store in a glove box or tool pouch, whereas the heavier Hacus unit is better left in a workshop.
• Best for Corrosion Resistance → Hacus: The explicit mention of resistance to wear and corrosion in the Hacus data sheet makes it ideal for environments where rust and grime are constant threats.
• Best for Sensitive Component Cleaning → Permatex: The professional strength formulation is tailored for brake parts, ensuring it cleans effectively without damaging delicate seals or rubber components common in passenger vehicles.
• Best for High-Volume Fleets → Hacus: While Permatex is great for individual car maintenance, Hacus is positioned for the demands of larger fleets and commercial operations requiring consistent reliability.
• Best for Winter Driving Prep (Passenger Cars) → Permatex: For the average driver getting their car ready for snow and salt, the targeted cleaning power of Permatex ensures brake systems are free of debris before the first storm hits.
I would buy Permatex Professional Strength Brake for my own personal vehicle preparation. The reality is that for most people, the goal is to keep their daily driver safe and reliable, especially when the weather turns cold. The ability to get into tight spots and ensure brake components are spotless is far more valuable than the industrial durability offered by the forklift-specific Hacus. In my opinion, the compact, professional-grade nature of Permatex aligns perfectly with the needs of winter driving, where every bit of brake responsiveness counts. While Hacus is a fantastic piece of industrial equipment, it is overkill for the garage and the driveway.
